I am confused in the genres of electronic. I know I don’t like minimal types as much- progressive, trance, minimal house, etc. I say I like dubstep. However, when searching through dubstep, it’s pretty clearly dark, dirty, “UK” dubstep. I guess I like “light” dubstep? Mainstream? “Brostep?”
Help me out here- here are some artists I like:
Adventure Club
Bingo Players
Chase & Status
Flux Pavillion
The Glitch Mob
Justice
Koan Sound
The M Machine
Magnetic Man
Nero
Noisia
Porter Robinson
Pretty Lights
Savoy
Skrillex (No comment)
Wolfgang Gartner
I do like some dirty dubstep and house:
Daft Punk
deadmau5
Doctor P
Datsik (Some)
Feed Me
Swedish House Mafia
Zomboy
It’s all about energy. Some dubstep are like “OMFG, the world is gonna blow right now. Let’s rip our heads off and dance to this tune.” and others are like “Look at my moves man, look at it. I can dance slowly to the floor chick, c’mon, shake that ass”.
Some Deep songs are like “Turn up the volume DJ, I’m losing my feet dancing to this, but is so jumpy, and disco I can’t stop.” And others are like “Yooo man… This groove is so good… I’m going to lay down here a little bit… It’s making me a lil sleepy… It’s like mom singing to me…”
I remember back when I thought dubstep was the only thing I liked…then I kept listening to EDM for 2 years. You’ll come around to the classy (minimal) side of the scene eventually.
In response to your actual question, every artist you listed has a bit of a multi-faceted approach to dubstep. Some are more electro, and some are the mainstream dubstep artists. Who cares what you call it? If you like it, you like it.
judging by the list of above mentioned artist i´d say you´re into almost every genre that includes hard basslines, distorted synths etc.
electro, electro house, glitch, dubstep (the filthy stuff) and drum&bass.
