Hey, just a quick one - linked to the beatmatching, age range debate i guess.

No prejudice atall, just interested to see. How many people here are simply bedroom DJs, and how many are actively making money from being a DJ.

I’ve broken it down a bit more than that, just to get a better range (perhaps..)

I hope you find this interesting too

Our first paid club gig was about a year and a half ago, we’ve lots of unpaid outdoor parties etc before and after that as well. Being on the harder side of the DJ spectrum its a bit more difficult for us to get regular spots in our few local bars, and the times we have its been housey electro stuff, which tbh isn’t our forte. Smalll town (25000 or so in Blenheim) there are only a handful of DJ’s around, whom we know and when ever one of us plays, the others usually get free drinks all night. Friend of ours owns a cafe and is sussing out his liquor license, after that we can rock out every week.

Bedroom DJ but have played in a few clubs and some very big systems (what it’s all about) - hoping to play a lot more this year

bedroom dj and just do house parties for mates from time to time.

bedroom dj who plays in clubs once or twice a month…hope it will get more this year.

I’ve held 5 different residencies over the past 2 years and have done various one off things internationally.

Bedroom DJ by trade, have played in a few club/events before though and got paid for it.

got paid twice to be exact, but spun 4 times in a club and several times in a pub for free.

bedroom dj who’s done a few houseparties…

i intend on staying in my bedroom!

Professional Midifighter

Residency for approx 4-5 years with 2-3 nights a week and still don’t beatmatch

was “Regularly play in nightclubs, and get paid for it. But still have a day job.”
but over time it’s slipped down to “Bedroom DJ by trade, have played in a few club/events before though and got paid for it.”

was playing shows and promoted a few events from 07-08. had a couple lined up in 09 when i decided it was time to put the dj thing on the backburner and focus on more practical goals like my education and taking care of my health (quit partying).

for now, bedroom dj and don’t intend on doing any gigs this year, but i might get back into it after i finish college in 2011. it’s been awhile since i played a show, every now and then i get the itch to set something up but now is just not the time.

Bedroom DJ by trade, have played in a few club/events before though and got paid for it. Though like duerr, my focuses are turning elsewhere (production and schoolwork). I am more interested in spending my time trying to make stuff than just spin strictly. Of course we all love mixing and the urges come and go (like the 6 hours of mixing last night).

I can’t be the only one on this forum that’s not a DJ…
just a songwriter/producer that likes good fun toys…
Big ups midifighter…

bedroom dj… played a few housies, itching to try and get into the club scene (want the basss). still trying to find places in my area though… having some difficulty.

Professional DJ, play three nights a week and that money pays for my life style. Also bartend one night a week on Tuesdays, but that’s only because I get to book the DJ’s and do what I want with the night.

Looking to break into a bigger market though but can’t decide where.

Well then you clearly fall into the Bedroom DJ category.. perhaps?

I have a day job.

Been playing clubs and festivals for a good few years now.

Have held 2 Residencies…the current one is in its 3rd year now.

resident in a club with 1800 capacity, work 7 hour shows every sat night for 5 years. but still hold a day job.

I’m more of a living room DJ…
I use to play a monthly dance party but that ended when the owner sold the building. Since then I have stuck to the house parties. Hopefully something will happen soon
