Reading all these posts made me realize that there is a lot of videos been requested. Since videos are a better way of explaining ideas than any other form, I can see why. I know were relying on Ean to post videos on different techniques but I was thinking, perhaps, we can find or create videos to help each other. By popular demand, we can focus our attention more effectively.
I am working on a beat grid video today but other videos by users are more than welcome! if you have something to share please do it! Each video I produce takes a full day to make and as you can imagine, the past month has been sooooooooooooooooooooooooo busy  I literraly flew around the world twice in 2 months - each direction!
I am really interested in Cue Juggling. I know Ean has a couple vids up, and a good post describing it, but I would like a intro lesson of some sorts.
Maybe a vid with a fairly common song we are likely to have, and then pointing out where on the measure/measures he would place the cue points. Then showing how they relate to his cue jump buttons, and some creative ways to juggle through them.
I know that there is no formula for every song, but I think seeing it applied to one song that I could practice with at home, could really get the juices flowing.
I know video editing is a bitch Ean, but do know we all really appreciate what you do for the rest of us. It’s your willingness to share your knowledge that has turned me into a fan-boy.
Oh yeah, and I guess you have some pretty crazy skills too!
ahhh shucks guys, thats kind of you to day. to be honest i really enjoying teaching and sharing my knowledge. After 12 years of djing its really way more rewarding than making drunk girls dance.
How to pick up drunk dancing chicks in the club. Welllllllllllllllllllll.
Anyone that knows my reputation in SF knows I can point out a few things.
but, I think I will just stick to teaching djing.
Inspired by the drumroll thread - an effects video! I know that effects should be used sparingly, but I would like to know how to use them properly. So far I can do a basic flanger / high-pass sweep before a breakdown or at the end of the 4th bar to add some tension… cheesy, yes.
I’d like to learn about more sophisticated approaches to things, such as the freeze-delay-reverb (I don’t know what it’s called) where it sounds like a single beat is frozen and at the same time it’s reverbing and delaying for 4 beats and then the track kicks in again.
Also, a little off-topic, but can someone tell me what the wet/dry knob does? I’ve seen it in many places and the meaning escapes me.
Wet/Dry selects the mixture of the track post and pre effect, if you have the effect set fully dry then you wont hear the effect, and if you it set fully wet you wont hear any of the original (uneffected) track.
Yeah it would be cool to have a thread / post on different effects/multieffects/superknobs that can be used to spice up a track. The one on how to make your own is awesome but a more detailed one on the kinds that you (Ean or any other digital DJ) uses would be awesome.
Ah, thanks, that’s what I was guessing, but was also confused so to dry/wet meanings - do you hear the “dry” effect or is it just the dry sound, etc. Thanks for clearing it up.
