got a call yesterday about an opportunity to be a resident at a local skating rink, which i said i’d be more than happy to do. the only problem is, i haven’t been to one since elementary school, does anyone know what type of music is best suited for that environment? my ideas were:
breakbeats
top 40 dance remixes
or top 40 in general?
my thinking was that dance music would go over well since it’s kind of a physical activity and has a lot of energy, but then again people want to hear their favorite tunes too? since the bpm’s would be quite different and they specifically told me they want continuous music, i want to choose a range and be able to satisfy everyone with it.
i think top 40 and all time pop classics is expected in that sort of a situation - atleast all the djs at the skate rinks i have been to play that sort off music
^ word.. ya I’d try to find a middle ground between what you’d normally play and top40/classic pop so you don’t get completely bored with things but also keep the patrons and management happy.
oh nah nah, this isn’t a skate park..i wish! it’s a skating rink, like..the big wooden oval floor. but i need to call my local skate parks now and see if they want a dj..
That, and ofcourse loadsa ‘Earth, Wind and Fire’ (Dance Boogiewonderland)
And these kind of funky grooves.
(Ashford & Simpson - Solid, Jackson 5 - Can you feel it, Kool & the gang - Fresh etc etc.)
