What’s a good controller…
with just a lot of kobs and buttons? No need for faders
Really liking the Monome controllers, but no knobs >_<
i love the monome, just don’t understand why their so expensive 
They are made in small batches, by a small company, have nice cases and alot of the work is done by hand.
As for the original question there is the BCR-2000 however thats all rotary knobs and rotary knobs lack the haptic feedback of the fully of and on positions which is really nice too have. You dont notice how nice it is until you dont have it, i wouldnt bother ever using a freeze effect at the 127 position for instance. So what else does that leave that availible on the market ? Not a hell of alot at all.
Closest thing i can think of is a UC-33e but that also has faders.
vcm-600 maybe? lots of knobs and buttons..but also faders.
UC33e doesn’t have that many knobs and buttons I’d say, but I’m still going to be using it. Just looking for something to compliment it.
How hard would it be to mod a monome you think? Turn some of the buttons into knobs?
If you are willing to mod a monome, why not just build one from scratch?
Yeah you can buy them in Kit form so that would help but to be honest if you have to mod it that much it cant be right in the first place.
I dont think its a good idea. I dont know how you want to use a controller but i dont see the Monome as a DJ controller in the usual sense.
Why not get a bunch of Korg Nanos for a billionth of the price of a Monome ?
If you really wanted to mod a monome, it would be much cheaper to just buy a Make Controller Kit and make the controller that you really want. Would take some thinking, but run off of the same protocol as the monome (OSC) and would be able to use just about any input device you could throw at it.

Looking to use it for Ableton, and I want to be able to launch clips and have the buttons and knobs available for each channel.
The Monome and APC40 fit the bill for being able to start and stop clips on each channel, but no knobs on the monome obviously and the APC40 doesn’t have knobs dedicated for each channel.
The final goal is to not have to touch or look at the computer unless I’m loading clips, and be able to adjust everything at moments notice with out having a button to shift through “banks”.

The cheapest way to achieve this would be an APC40 and a few nano’s, honestly.
