OK, seeing as I’ve written in about a thousand threads tonight, I’d thought I’d start one of my own: when good DJs (or producers) go bad, and make an unsound business move, take an unwise new direction, or basically just make an absolute tit out of thenselves.
I’ve picked an obvious one just to get the ball rolling.
The Tidy Boys, UK purveyors of punishing hard house, were Jive Bunny in a previous life:
True story: I’ve got a mate who took a Jive Bunny record to one of their weekenders and got them to sign it. They took it very well, apparently.
lol now that is comical because I do like the Tidy Boys CD’s, then again if your aim is to make money and they did with Jive Bunny i bet they could care less, they must be pretty old though!
I loved that kitschy housemartins song when I was a kid. Thanks for that revelation. Now I want my Caravan of Love + some FBS track I heard way too often mashup.
Some of the Pendulum guys were in a metal band before, but I care way too less about them to do further investigations.
I need to hear something from Death from Above. I’m curious about them since someone put the phrase “Let’s make love and listen Death from Above” into my head.
Sven Vath when he was in German pop band OFF (Organisation for Funk). I always laugh at this… Last year I was on a tour with Cox, and Sven was with us part of the time, just makes me laugh knowing how crazy this dud really is… ha
I remember back when I went to a fair few hardcore raves, after hearing the commercial dance “You’re Shining” remix (which made me cringe as it was just a slowed down version of the original) and just before Breeze & Styles started to go commercial, Darren Styles decided to release a single that REALLY makes you wonder what he was thining…
Note: If you like boy band songs you’ll like this (and remember this is from an upfront hardcore producer)
This is the album version of what is probably their biggest (not best tune).
DEATH FROM ABOVE was painted on the front of one of the Helicopters in the film Apocalypse Now.
They were called Death From Above but the record lable DFA (stands for the same thing) got a bit shirty so the band added the drummers year of birth to their name.
Well, thats what read a few years back.
“Let’s make love and listen Death from Above” is a tune by C.S.S.
Daft Punk, everything they have done after “Homework” which is my favourite electronic album is totally shit, here’s just an example you know very well, is absolutely cheesy and dumb and they became famous and rich with it:
