Where is the best place to buy used Apple Mac's?

Where is the best place to buy used Apple Mac’s?

Does anyone know of any reputable Apple refurb sellers? Or used Apple stores where you can get hold of Mac’s in decent condition at a reduced cost?

Anyone like to share any good/bad experiences of buying second hand Mac’s? And what to watch out for when doing so?

I found this guide on cnet which seems quite useful.

It seems quite a popular topic when choosing what to buy out of a Mac of Windows machine when your not willing to shell out for a brand new Mac. Do you buy a used Mac for the price you would pay for a brand new similar spec Windows machine?

I bought my refurbished 17" macboook pro from currys/pc world and never had a problem with it. Can buy them from apple themselves, just look on their website and at the bottom left there is a refurbished section somewhere. Still expensive tho haha. Mine was stl £1500, bought the apple care off eBay for it and still have another year left on that.

I have looked at both of these sites (PC world & Co. and Apple) but like you say they are still quite expensive ha!

When you say your brought the Apple care off ebay what do you mean by that?

I know Tesco sell refurbs with 12 month warranty on fleaBay.

psst… student discount?

Here’s a tip

  1. Locate the Mac you want Apple Online Refurb shop
  2. Call Apple Sales and tell them that you want to buy XYZ refurb thats available online
  3. Tell them you are on the fence
  4. They offer free stuff / Discounts to sweeten the deal
  5. WIN!

They really want to get the sale so will do anything to make it before you leave the phone conversation. I did this with the last 4 purchases from the refurb shop and saved:

400 EURO on a 21’ Imac - including Applcare and Mighty Mouse (back then)
300 Euro on a macbook
200 Euro on a macbook
500 Euro on a 17’ macbook for my boss and Applecare discounted to 75 euro.

Thanks for the help - would you say that the 13" MBP is too small screen wise?

I’m using a 13" MBP with traktor and sometimes ableton and it works perfectly!

applecare is like there extended warranty, covers you for a further 2 years so its covered for a total of 3 years all together..worth getting when your spending so much on the laptop itself…
