Which filter/effect would make a good censor?
Hey guys in preparation for my upcoming gig I’m looking to setup a censor button what effect/filter would make a good censor? I’ll be using Traktor Pro with my Numark 4Trak controller.

Reverse.
/end topic.
If you need to censor your music for a gig, why not edit the vocal parts out? Costs some time, but will sound a shitload better then reversing everything. Or just go and find the clean versions ![]()
beatmash the bad words!
jk, take the time to make clean edits… you know youll never be able to focus on the lyrics of a song while mixing.
on a side note ive always been suprised traktor doesnt have a reverse play
I would just put the tracks in Ableton and edit them there.
+1
Any DAW will do the work. Even Audacity is sufficient to make this kind of edit.
“Radio edits” are typically a better place to start than “Album edits.”
Gater would be second to reverse.
I would throw said tracks into a multitrack session and add an amusing sample over the offending parts. Or you could drop a marker on those areas for some live censorship.
beatmash, it works good
Reverse Grain effect should do the trick ![]()
One button that toggles crossfader to Deck C and also plays a sample of a screaming goat always gets the crowd pumped.Really effective with 90s gangsta rap. Trust me. It works.
“Googles goat noises for sample deck”
Lol Space Monkey you are a genius! What I do is mark a cue point over each word that needs to be censored so that they don’t sneak up on you. If you do not have enough cue points, you may want to consider editing them with a production software. I always dj school dances with a friend so that one can preview the questionable requests while the other djs.
The problem with using a filter is that the kids singing along can clearly be heard when the upper frequency is filtered out lol.
Thats a good suggestion as well and the reason I ask about censoring is because this will be for a school dance lol.
Yeah if that is the case maybe you want to look for edited (PG-13) versions or like other have suggested edit them yourself. So many things can happen in the night that if you have to rely on being quick on the trigger to censor tracks you’re gonna miss something and corrupt a whole generation of children. Play it safe and get the dirty birds out yo tracks before showing up.
Beatmasher works for me..
And thats one of the things I love about Serato Flip - multiple edits of the same track at your fingertips including pre-recorded censor actions (if required) ![]()
I can’t get over how protective they are in schools in the US - I would have been hung up alive by students if I had ever played the “clean” version of anything.
For example one that comes to mind …
Oh yea, the explicit Wiggle Wiggle! Oh dear.. it’s pretty nasty alright!
I’m toying with the idea of moving to serato, but have put too much work into getting traktor setup for ‘me’ inc custom controller mappings which I would lose in the crossover to serato.
The flux mode in Traktor is pretty good, I would use that too, but it does pay to be creative and use various effects and sometimes samples to cover up the profanities. If it’s an issue, really, just use an audio editor, and do a small edit that way.. but only if ya got the time.
Normally, unless it is kids or likely to offend management, I just leave the profanity I , never had any big issues with that
Make an edit before hand. Trying to censor something live is just asking for trouble. You just want to be able to play the track without having to wait for that moment to engage and effect, that you could miss or forget.
Truth.
