Which is the best design for a DJ-blog

Which is the best design for a DJ-blog

I’m currently working with a designer on a new header-design for my blog.
We’re a bit stuck at the moment. I’m not really satisfied but also don’t know what else we can try.
Here are some drafts. The Hedgehog-logo is just a placeholder.

Please vote and tell me what you think about them/how we could improve it!

Design 1 (drawn):

Design 2:

Design 3:

I think you should tone down the header. It takes up nearly half the screen!

I picked one, but I agree. The headers should be toned down a bit. And just a hint if your getting a pop up on the images hit the square, not the X to close them without being redirected to the add site.

not voting until i get less than 3 pop-ups each preview

concur with the above statements from the tiny thumbnail however

Time to vote completej.
I uploaded to imageshack.us and hotlinked the files.

voted green theme. with a simple jquery script, you could have the header float to the top of the screen and hide half of it, displaying the image on entry, then allowing the user to see more of the blog after load.

They’re all pretty similar dude… and agreed, all a bit too big

hey dj, you forgot to plug your audio out :stuck_out_tongue:

on: green for me, but certainly smaller

*green
*smaller
*plug something into the outputs

I’ll just remove the audio-outputs.
Question is whether photo or drawn is better.

Photo without fx for me please

photo, the drawn effect is kinda overused

honestly all of them are an eye-sore.

i’d scrap the birdseye turntable/mixer photo altogether, it’s really cheesy.

the “hedgehog” logo is not bad, if you want some more graphics to accompany the logo, why not go with some graphics that are in a similar vain.

i’m thinking something like some smooth sleek abstract lines/geometrical shapes - you know something that has a similar style to your logo and compliments it rather than detracts from it.

you’re a dj, people who visit your site don’t need to be reminded with a cliche shot of turntables and mixer. it’s too obvious and unimaginitive.

There’s one term that, for me, works in all appeal circumstances.

K.I.S.S.

Keep it simple stupid.

Really though. Keep it simple. Don’t be busy. Get your name up there, maybe a nice background, and have the content be the focus instead of your header. Take a look at some popular blogs, forums, and other sites. You don’t want it to be busy because then it detracts from your content.

it’s the same design. just different color. a little dated as well.

I hope you aren’t paying more than 20 bucks. Anybody could make a website like that after a weekend of messing around with either drupal or wordpress.

@padi_04: It is actually drawn, no fx

@duerr: Alternative ideas are welcome

@BigC: Sounds pretty good, just need a good logo then

@maxonemillionone: I’ll pay you 40 bucks and expect a better design, how about that?
That kind of criticism isn’t getting you anywhere on DJTT.

I must be the only one to prefer the drawn one
But I agree the header is too large

voting for the third

Lose the photo, go wild with the illustration on top instead.
