Which midi input keyboard?

Which midi input keyboard?

Im only asking this as I’m hoping to maybe save some money…

Finally have enough money together for my mac, but I don’t have a midi input keyboard as such.

What I do have is an 88 key Yamaha Clavinova, however, this is over 10 years old, and has no USB connectivity.

Is this gonna be pretty much useless on my venture into production? It does have midi out and thru connections on the rear panel, so I could use these with a midi-USB type cable, or would I be best off just buying a controller keyboard?

If the answer to the last question is yes, then can someone suggest one? Cat not a issue (despite what I said at the start, I just rather not spend the money if I don’t have to), but nothing that’s priced so high that I might laugh!

If someone could suggest a decent jumping off point, then that would be much appreciated!

Peace out

Check out the SL MkII and the Impulse. There’s also the new Launchkey.

If you’re looking for a nice synth that can be used as MIDI input or played via MIDI, there’s the Nord Stage 2, UltraNova, and many others.

Would a synth give me more flexibility? Gonna be using it with Ableton live or Suite, once I’ve made a choice as to what I want…

I would try the MIDI to USB cable or have an audio Interface with MIDIin/MIDIout if you already have the Yamaha Clavinova CVP 200 or CVP 900 series.

Most of the MIDI controllers don’t have the solid feel of the weighted keys on a decent digital piano, therefore it would be my preference to use that to play for DAW project recordings.

Tekki’s on it - if your digital piano can be used as a MIDI input device, that would be an almost-free solution.

Ableton Suite will allow you to use almost any soft synth you could want, but hardware synths are fun, too.
