Why are my Beatgrids & Grid Locks deleted when i clear my collection?

Has this happened to anyone else?
It happens to all my tracks but not the ones i have downloaded from the Traktor Bible beat gridding tutorial.

… OS, Traktor version, etc?

Its never happened to me and I’d be one pissed off dude if it did. Any other details?

Yes sorry, leopard 10.5.8 & 1.1.2 version of Traktor Pro.

This does not happen though with the tracks i downloaded and beatgridded from the Traktor Bible Beatgridding Tutorial!

What type of files

My Wav files

Wav files cannot be tagged. No information other than the filename and the uncompressed sound are stored in them. The collection is the only place where your grids and cues are stored, so by clearing the collection you are deleting them.

Thats a bit of a bummer. So the tracks that are MP3’s can be cleared from the collection and your tags will still remain (it does this with the mp3’s from the beatgrid tutorial)?

It doesn’t seem very logical.

When i was using timecode, i would delete my collection after each session and for a new session just import the tracks from my hardrives as i have many folders categorized under different genres.

Imagine beatgridding everything & accidently clearing the collection, LOL.

Thanks alot for your reply!

Is this how you operate - never clearing your collection???

Tim

I never clear my collection because it is exactly that - my collection. It contains all my music files, beatgridded or not.
I also use .mp3s. Traktor automatically writes the tags to these files so even if my collection is lost the cuepoints and beatgrids can be retrieved from them.

I don’t know how you could accidentally clear your collection. Just keep a backup and you should be okay.

I never clear my collection. Rather, the only time I cleared it is when I started this massive overhaul project. but even then I backed it up.

Thanks for the help from both of you.

I just need to ask one last question about importing your collection

After adding your music folders to your data location & when in the browser tree, is this the best place to access your different genre folders, apart from creating playlists?

By adding your folders to your data location, this does not actually add them to your collection as well does it?
You still need to physically “add to your collection”.

And does anyone know why Traktor won’t write tags to Wav files?

Thanks for all of your help…

Adding folders to your data location adds them to the collection. I don’t sort my mp3s at all outside of Traktor, rather I make playlists from the collection for each genre. Then when I add tracks, I’ll grid them, correct any tags and then out in at least one playlist.

Traktor doesn’t write tags to wavs because wavs don’t support tags.

I have all of my mp3s organized on my computer by artist/album, but I still import them into my collection if I am going to play them.

just to clarify, if you organize your collection on your computer (like i have too), then whats the point in adding your collection to the data location when you can just go through explorer in the browser tree and add tracks to the collection that way?

adding your collection to the data location?

All I do is add my tracks from my computer to my collection in Traktor. I do this so I can keep updated tags in Traktor and search through faster than going through the collection.

Sorry i meant what is the point in adding music folders to the data location when you can just go through explorer in the browser tree and add tracks that way

It’s all good. My brain is barely working and I think something is getting lost in translation.

I always add the tracks into the Collection in Traktor. As long as it’s getting into the Collection in Traktor you’ll be fine. And then keep them there. If you clear them out you’re going to have to keep re-adding them, and it is more complicated to go through the Explorer in the browser than the Collection windows.

Typical. Now when i clear my collection the beatgrids for my Wavs remain locked. That information has not been deleted. So sometimes i loose the locked beatgrids when i clear my collection and sometimes i don’t.
Maybe this is a bug.

thanks again for the help!
