Why no Technics SL-DZ1200’s? And Question about Numark NDX 800’s

The standard is obviously pio cdjs… it seems these never got recognized from the research I’ve done. Does anyone use these?

I’m looking for something to learn to disconnect myself from my laptop a bit, experiment with some scratching.

I’ve also looked into the numark ndx 800’s. I’ve seen midi mappings for all four decks to one cdj… but at that point do you lose timecoding? I guess I don’t understand quite how that works. I understand the technics have no midi capability.

I’m running tsp with an audio 8dj, and a ddm4000 with the stock fader. Any and all advice appreciated!

If you want to do scratching, go for TTs, not CDJs (but maybe you have those already?)

And the reason nobody uses the Technics CD deck is because… It kinda sucked, or so I hear.

i have a dz1200 id sell if you want one, i hear they got a little better with the firmware upgrade:stuck_out_tongue:

I guess they suck as MP3 players without the new firmware. They work excellent with Serato timecode.

u know ive never even tried it with timecode in traktor… might have to drag it out and give it a whirl.

^ Never? You may like it better than 1200s. It’s my mixtape setup of choice.

I’ve heard there;s too much of a lag issue for them to be much cop for scratching …

If your serious about scratching, it might be worth investing in an Innofader. If your not keen on investing £100 or so, Behringer do an optical contact free “Infinium” crossfader for around £40. It is a direct replacement for the crossfader in the DDM, and takes about 5 minutes to install. It is fully adjustable to suit your tension requirements, and keeps the full MIDI functionality, curve adjustment and transform as the standard fader.

Yeah stay away mate, they look cool - even now - but they aint great for scratching on at all…

They were a cool idea and are pretty, functionally not so great.

Why? I can’t think of anything made by technics that’s really impressed me. I mean there are the turntables themselves but that’s been polishing something that was first made 40 years ago.

Have panasonic made any controllers? Hell do they even make any DJ gear any more?

I’m pretty sure they’re still doing Technics-branded headphones for DJ-use, and AFAIK, the SL1200 was never intended for DJs originally, was it?

The DZ kinda blows. Which sucks…because it was gorgeous.

If you use it with time code, it’s probably passable…almost. But they kinda feel like crap.

I’m into turntablism and sold my 1200s to buy sldz1200s in 2004, because they were Technics and because I saw digital music as the future. I just sold them last year to make room for the Kontrol S4, which is a lot of what I ever wanted in a setup.

My take is that Panasonic just never innovated on the dzs, while Pioneer was pushing out new models with new features regularly… or so it seemed.

Technics made the 12s. A fairly major contribution to Dj culture…

Little diddy technics controller with them dot style platters would be bad ass!

Never gonna happen but would be cool if they made he perfect controller.

Thanks for the feedback guys! My price range is $600 or under… I’m thinking demon 3000 or 3500’s used… The 3700s are just outside my price range. Also looking into a new fader… Thanks again!
