Will a USB to Serial adapter work?

I just got my fw upgrade kit and a note saying DJTT strongly suggested I use only a serial to serial connection for the upgrade process. Problem is they are hard to find - nobody I know has a serial port and I don’t have one on my Mac.

Why would a USB to serial adapter cause problems? I was planning on getting one to use with Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro.

I did use a USB Serial cable anyway, before I read your post, because I don’t know anybody with a serial port. It worked just fine.
