WinAmp vs iTunes

WinAmp vs iTunes

Which do you use and why?

Neither - use VLC cos it’s a light install & really simple, like me

Mediamonkey for me everytime

iTunes, works well with our 3 iPhones and multiple iPods and smart playlists.

itunes. good in general

but i use VLC for videos, and i use VLC for audio at school and i like that too

Foobar2000 FTW!

Fully layout-customizable, light weight, supports about everything, enough plugins a man would want (I mainly use Waveform seeker, ReplayGain, Audioscrobbler, HTTP Control for my iPad, Quick Tagger), automated playlists (ie. on Artist/title/etc… or Added last 2 months, etc…) and a lot more I can’t think of at this moment. There are even plugins for direct transfer of your music to your iPod or whatever, so for me it’s the all-in-one solution.

I used to use Winamp in the past and it worked pretty good, but since I’ve been using Foobar I don’t have to worry about anything, it just does about everything

iTunes, winamp was my baby before i switched

winamp is used by hermites. basically, ppl that have been cut off from the interwebz for the last ten years

itunes is for those who don’t know any better. but i hear the itunes store is the largest on teh world wide internets? IT creates triplicates of all of my songs while keeping them in the most logical folder structure ever envisioned by mankind. doesn’t that rock?

errr, seriously: winamp is archaic, itunes is bloatware. we need a bass-tard option in this pole!

If iTunes is creating more than one file and organizing your music for you it’s because you’ve told it to in preferences. However, I do agree with the bloatware statement.

I actually use both and here are my reasons why.

iTunes edits ID3 tags and some of my music is… shared so the checksum needs to stay intact so I can keep sharing it. iTunes also adds files to the library when played which is annoying as I move music all the time and you can’t remove missing files in the library in bulk. This means that I normally have 2 copys of my music. One sharing drive and the other my actual organised music. I let iTunes access only this music.

So Winamp for play back.
iTunes for organising and podcasts.

It’s pretty annoying and a lot of effort.

EDIT: Forgot to say why I use Winamp.
I have a skin called clearONE beta which is a dock bar at the top of my screen. It’s always ontop and autohides. Basically like my Windows taskbar. I can’t find any other skin or media player which comes close to how nice and simple it is. So I have been using it for the past 6 years.

That’s why I use Foobar.

If I download an EP or something, it copies it to my music-partition, with the right folder structure (ie. D:\Music\Artist\Album Name\etc..) & the right ID3 tags (if they’re not correct). The original is left alone to share & the copy is now automatically added to my library in Foobar. If I then have a certain automated playlist that only shows the tracks that were added to my library in the last 4 weeks, it’ll pop up there too

I don’t use several programs for all that, just one. I have to admit though that some features and the use of some plugins aren’t exactly easy, but if you’re really interested in stuff like this, you’ll see that it’s doable

Ohh that sounds good. Only problem is I now start moving files by Genre then Artist/Album. I like to pick the genre as well because some Artists don’t have a clue and I’m not putting different types of DnB in different folders. Clown step my ass. :stuck_out_tongue:

Might have to check it out though. Thanks

wtf IS clown step anyway. as far as i can tell its jump up…assuming i have the right idea of what jump up is

+1

Winamp for the traktor library .. iTunes for my extensive colection of gabber polka concept albums.

Polka FTW!!

Winamp when i had windows, now i’m on mac i don’t have much choice but to use itunes, which i don’t like.

itunes just for my iphones
aimp2 for everything else

iTunes… because its made by Apple and ‘apparently’ we all know that if you own 1 Apple product you have to buy them all because you are a vacuous lazy fashionista that cant do anything for yourself and you have more money than sense and and and blaaaaaaah

iTunes just cus it fucking works and not cus im an Apple Fanboy

it doesn’t imo. without tweaking, it doesn’t even embed cover art for music not purchased in the itunes store. without tweaking, it can’t play flac, ogg, or wma (well, i think it might be able to convert wma–but that’s bad, too). no avi or matroska containers. no last.fm scrobbling without 3rd party software. no sync with my android phone (in fact, no sync with anything but apple devices). no dlna/upnp support. etc.

people just get trapped by apple. i have an iphone hence i need itunes. i have iphone apps, videos that have apple drm, etc. thus, people are sticking to apple because the switching cost of going back to a PC are prohibitively high. and some people lie to themselves about it (that’s called post-purchase rationalization/choice-supportive bias).
