As you can see, I am new to DJ Tech Tools. I was previously a member with another DJing-related forum, but the positive criticism I kept hearing about this site finally persuaded me to register.
My question is regarding Winter Music Conferece. I am a college student and have Spring Break through March 18th. As such, I am planning to take a vacation to Miami Beach to experience WMC this year. My only concern is that all I keep hearing about is the Ultra music festival (in terms of performances). There are (so far unspecified) links for poolside and nightclub parties, but I am questioning whether any particularly special acts will be occurring for the opening weekend.
Has anyone been to WMC for the opening weekend previously or heard otherwise and can reassure me to continue with my booking?
WMC gets some pretty damn good artists in town, in many ways better than ultra, and a lot of ultra artists perform at wmc as long as the the assholes at ultra don’t make them sign an exclusivity agreement.
Who is going to this? Does anyone have a line on places to stay? Our place fell through and I’m looking online and it seems like the whole damn city is booked through march
I’m staying at the airport mariott. Booked through expedia two weeks ago it was $146 a night for three nights (had a thing where buy two nights get a third free). I’m sure they still have rooms available as do the other airport hotels out that way.
You will have to pay cab fare each day but even with $60 a day in cab fare it is still less than half the price for much nicer accommodations than anything in south beach or near ultra or the downtown clubs.
Well what budget I have is allotted to drinking lol… But yeah I grew up in fl so I’m aware of club prices. I wanted to avoid having to cross back and forth over the bridge (whether by rental car or cab) every day but it looks like that might be our best option.
What’s crazy is I grew up in fl and at the time south beach was basically the “cuban ghetto”… lol how things have changed.
A noob and sort of off topic question about the WMC and DJ awards in general, but is the IDMA awards “the best” a DJ/ Dance music producer could win or are there other awards more prestigious than the IDMA awards?
Man I wish I booked a hotel earlier and could have stayed downtown.
Anyone have any idea if there will be parking around ultra? On reddit someone was saying they set up huge pay to park lots and not to take a cab from where I’m staying since it will take forever or they won’t go there.
Btw I’m DJing a st Patrick’s day burlesque show at Foxs Lounge if anyone is interested in coming by. Very different from what will be going on at the beach tho lol
You said you would be staying by the Airport, correct?
What days will you be going to Ultra and at what time. I won’t have any issues picking you up and take you since I live across the street and I don’t need to worry about parking.
That way, you will only have to take a cab ride back if you wanted too. I can tell you parking is going to be crazy. It’s already is for any Heat game that goes on. (Ultra will be Heat game x3).
