So this is only slightly related to DJing but thought I would start here. I am looking for a way to wirelessly transmit audio from my macBook to an audio system in a different part of the house using a WiFi connection or Bluetooth, or whatever else might be out there but it has to be wirelessly.
I will mostly be using this for iTunes but would love to have to option of streaming my live mixes or anything else.
I know the Airport Express is close to what I am looking for but it is limited in that I wont be able to stream my mixes from Traktor. So if you guys know of any compatible USB audio cards that would work or something else I am missing,it would be greatly appreciated.
yea i have a little device that receives audio via bluetooth and plugs into speakers etc. i havent used it yet because the bluetooth capabilities were wiped from my computer when i set it up for DJing, but i hear its sounds fantastic
I use an airport express for this myself - if you use a prog called airfoil, you can transmit from pretty much any program, not just itunes. There can be a slight delay on some progs, so i wouldn’t recommend it for monitoring a mix..
Alternatively, you could use a FM transmitter like you can get for the car - just need a radio to pick it up
These guys showed some REALLY cool stuff at NAMM 2009.
The latencies are remarkably low (in the microseconds) and the quality is absolutely pro-quality. It’s worth a look. (In addition to being a Serato geek, I’m also our resident wireless geek. )
Not much of a alternative (way too expensive for that); but I use a Sonos System to transmit the sound from my MacBook to my Sound-System. Minimal delay only. But you can stream from all devices to other devices, even several different exit-points in sync.
