Would you buy a Technics 1200 MK5 Gold turntable for $700??

Would you buy a Technics 1200 MK5 Gold turntable for $700??

Hey lads. I just got back from a second hand store down the way and saw a limited edition, gold MK5 for $700! I know it’s loads of money but I think they may be a collectors’ item and will hold value (or increase) in the future. What should I do?

That’s about the cost for a regular old used pair around here, and about half the cost of time-machine (new in box) mk5g in New York http://turntablelab.com/collections/turntables-for-djing-alpha/products/technics-sl1210m5g-turntable.

I’d be all over that like a fat kid on donuts buy it and post pictures.

Turn up with cash and try and bargin if your worried about the price.

That’s not that much. Go for it if it is what you want.

Buy it.

Er yeah!

I think ANYTHING gold looks tacky. I just don’t like the colour.
Aesthetically I don’t think you can beat a standard 1210.

Whatever floats ya boat though dude. I certainly understand the ‘desire’ when it grabs you.

I would buy it to resell since they are pretty hideous. You can prob get a bit more for it on ebay though. edit: prices may be different in japan and not worth quite as much there, no idea.

I love them. A pair of black and golds would be part of my dream setup!

I wanna say I see people trying to sell those for like triple that price.

Heading back there today to make up my mind. The prices here are so much cheaper than everywhere else in the world. There’s also an MK5 in perfect condition with the instruction manual for $300.

I’ll be moving back to Australia in the near future, so re-sale is definitely on my mind.

At those prices, hoard them all.

buy it! it’s going to just increase in value

Definitely get it mate, I wouldn’t even consider re-selling though!

I so wholeheartedly agree. Same goes for white too.

$wag

Buy it now!

Snap 'em both up - as long as the gold isn’t faded too much…

DEFINTELY grab the MK5 with both hands, though…

I’d defo grab it man!

So, I went to the second hand shop again today, armed with information about the gold MK5. When I got there and really inspected it, it was a little rougher than I remembered. The pitch control was a little rusty and the cartridge had been replaced with a standard one.

Instead, I walked out with the silver MK5 for $300 and now this has happened.
