wtf?

wtf?

So I dont know if anyone caught this but at cochella last year, the lead singer of Arcade Fire, Win Butler, was talking shit about DJs. The full story can be found here:

Well I was just looking at the line up for BUKU fest and guess who is on the list? DJ Windows 98, aka Win Butler.

How can you talk shit about DJs then become a DJ…?

Everybody is a DJ these days.

I don’t really see anything wrong with what he is saying or doing. He is giving props to bands playing instruments which seems to be on the decline. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t respect DJ’ing he is just paying respect to an art form. I think this is more of a case of Deadmau5 being a rather large outspoken douche as per usual.

I haven’t read the story, and I don’t plan to. I also don’t know anyone else involved, but…yeah, screw joel. Whenever he’s arguing, he’s probably wrong.

I can’t WAIT for the death of “EDM”, and I can’t WAIT until DJ’ing ain’t trendy anymore.

From your lips to God’s ears!!

I watched a few youtube videos on him. Dudes a tool. I mean, candy on his arms, bandana over his face, etc. Its like the dude looked up “rave fashion” on Google and went with it. Sad…

Honestly… I can’t either. Never thought I would be saying that.

I love Arcade Fire - and there’s nothing wrong with what he said - he wasn’t really having a go at edm.

I fucking hate that phrase…

edm

Early Day Motion

i.e. - taking a shit

Paris Hilton has a lot to answer for…

Not THIS conversation again…

+1

So let me get this straight. You bumped a thread that hasn’t been posted in in over 2 weeks to say, “Not THIS conversation again”?

Well in other news “edm” djs aren’t real djs

In other news EDM does not exist as a genre anyhow. It’s about as defining as “Multimedia” even in its use as broad, uneducated term.

Missed the humor in that? EDM was a blanket term…
“Ya I listen to edm”
“Cool what style”
“Prog like sasha and nick warren”
“Awesome i listen to jungle”
“Yeah i guess their both edm”
“Yup”

Now days not so much…
“Yo, BRUH you heard new r3Hab mix”
“Ya,BRUH don’t ya love EDM”
“YOLO, Molly’s and Steve aoki”
“Yeah man I don’t like that kind of edm”
“BRUH, there’s no other kind of edm”

Dammit - giggly gif was missing.

Hell, I just roll over and laugh when someone says they are “into” EDM - What they really mean is they are into Top 40 and can tolerate with gusto anything that resembles it

Haha no doubt I always get a kick out of it… I was doing a wedding this past summer and the grooms son kept requesting edm and I was like umm you gotta be more specific… As I suspected he meant big room house prog Jazz mudd butt I mean top 40 style music I’m like umm sure I’ll play something for ya

In decline, where?
Certainly not in the UK. Live music/bands is in rude health in the UK.

Anyhoo, Win Butler’s blurt at the festival wasn’t so much a dig at DJ’s than a supporting shout to musicians - he is well know to be an electronic music fan.
Arcade Fire are amazing live - I’ve seen them a number of time and they get better every time.

Deadmau5 has never said anything nor made any music I would ever choose to hear.
The guy is waste of carbon - albeit a very successful one.

The guy needs a good meal and a slap from his mum.

There are lots of bands around still and healthy scenes but it seems like there are less big bands in the mainstream spotlight compared to pre 2010.

I’m not basing this on any facts but I have heard it mentioned by bands in interviews and from my own observation.
