I’m freaking out… I’ve got a huge gig at a festival in less than two weeks, and my X1 just died…
When I plug my X1 in:
-The LEDs on the device flash briefly, then turn off.
-Windows gives an error message: “USB Device Not Recognized”
In Traktor, preferances, Device Setup: With the proper mapping selected in the device
dropdown, both the In-Port and Out-Port show “n/a: KX1”
I’ve tried it on my old laptop and a buddy’s laptop, both w/ 1.2.7, same result. I tried my buddy’s X1 on my laptop and it works perfectly.
Conclusion: my x1 is dead.
It’s probably just a coincidence, but the night before this happened, I had upgraded to 2.0.3, I just didn’t have a chance to play /w it.
Has anybody come across this? Or even better, anybody been able to fix this?
I tried that actually, but it’s unfortunately not a software issue… That, I’d be able to fix, one way or another. It’s the x1 hardware itself that’s pooched. I know it’s not software because my buddy’s x1 works on my laptop flawlessly.
But thank you for taking the time to contribute something useful (:
Step 1: Borrow X1 from said friend.
Step 2: Contact NI support and hopefully get a new unit in the mail. Hopefully it’s unlike the one I got which has two buttons labeled Hotcue and none labeled shift (hmmm… lol)
Step 2 is done. Although I don’t really have much faith in NI’s support… heard too many horror stories, not enough happy endings. They probably wouldn’t do anything anyways since the unit is 1.5 months out of warranty…
I’ve also talked to the shop I bought the x1 from, and the best they can do is send it in for a quote on repairs. They also very generously offered to sell me a new one…
I’ll tackle step 1 tonight… Or I may just buy another one. If my old one gets fixed, bonus: I’ll have two. If it doesn’t get fixed, also bonus: I’ve got an x1 to strip of it’s knobs and buttons to build a custom controller.
The timing on all this is just really bad… I was really hoping somebody would have an easy fix solution, like ‘blow some compressed air into the usb port’, or ‘sprinkle some eye of newt on the x1’…
Problem solved: bought a new one, sent the old one in for repairs, it’s out of warranty anyways. And this time I spent an extra $10 to get an extra year’s worth of warranty. In hindsight, a good investment.
So I’ll either wind up w/ 2 good ones, which would be cool.. or I’ll have one I can scavenge for parts to build my own controller, a project I’ll likely never complete, if I start it at all.
