you buy a controller with more knobs…

map the low mid and the low to the low knob, then map the mid high to the mid knob. Personally, I map would map the mid high and mid low both to the mid knob so the track has more body when I take out the low.

why would you want to control the mid high by itself?

Because it’s the most brilliant control added to a DJ mixer since the invention of the level fader.

It’s great at controlling or emphasizing snares.
It’s okay at adding or removing snap from kicks (tuned just a bit high for that IMO).
It’s great at fixing a lot of overzealous synths.

I use it more than the rest of my EQ pots combined on my xone:62.

If I were mapping an S4, I’d happily sacrifice any of the others to have direct control over that one…yes, including the low knob. I’d probably actually use the high knob as the hi-mid and forego a hi EQ, but…that’s way too practical (and I find the filter more useful than any EQ).

If I were building a mixer-style controller from the ground up…I might consider just putting a knob for the hi-mid and ignoring the other 3 to save space/clutter. I hardly ever use them, and I don’t miss them when they’re gone…I only miss that one.

But…apparently most of the world disagrees with me.

I’m in the 4 band eq boat.

I’m currently creating my own user mapping that has the filters in the effects section and 4 band eq on the 4 knobs for each channel.

I’ll share when its complete.

I’ve got the mid lo and mid hi mapped to the mid knob. I think I’ll just remove the high al together since I never really use that and map mid hi to that.

rest of the world minus one. that’s why I love the customizable EQ curves on my evo5 so much

NI are aware people enjoy this too.

If I had an S4 I’d map the filter knob to be the actual low EQ, and mid/low to be mid hi/mid low.
(then use one or two of the FX units as dedicated X:92 filters)

I thought about doing something similar, but because you can’t change the default mapping when you turn the high knob on the s4 you’ll be controlling both the mid-hi and hi and a similar problem with the mid knob. I suppose you can delete the default mapping and map everything yourself, but I never tried. Let me know if you get this to work w/ out having to delete the default mapping/

I use this mapping to get all 4 band EQ control for the XOne. I will NEVER go back to just a 3 band EQ after getting comfortable with 4 band..

What cutoff frequencies do you set them to to achieve this?

I did it this way and it sounds great. When the bass cross you still get clean miss and when it kicks in it bumps a deep bass.
