Yamaha QX3 and a Roland U8 USB Recorder - Parts salvage

Hiya!

I wass messing about in my studio this afternoon, when I realised that I had some gear that I never use (never have, just collected em somewhere along the line) and that there are parts I could salvage and use for mods!

So, what I have is a Yamaha QX3 Sequencer and a Roland U8 USB Recorder with a built in Audio Device. Not sure how good the audio is …but doubt its decent.

I am insterested in the Footswitch Ports at the back and the other bits I could use on it.

Maybe use the case and buttons and sliders in the QX3 case or something.

What do you guys think I could do with them?

My current setup is:

VC1-100 SE Arcade Buttons, Traktor Pro 1.1.2, MacBook and a Audio 4 DJ Sound Card.

I was thinking I could use the footswitch port for something…and the midi ports for connecting a Footswitch like Ean has.

Would a Footswitch Port work instead of a midi Port?

What FRANKENSTEIN job could I pull with this?

Any ideas would be awsome.

Bump!

Rather than destroying gear just so you can get a couple ports i would go buy new ports- they are suuuper cheap.

Ean doesnt use a midi port either, hes using a stereo audio jack from what i could tell.

Yeah, i always thought Ean’s footswitch was an XLR. Which is much nicer than the 1/4", since they lock in place.

I wouldn’t hack up that gear. If you’re looking for more midi control, just sell the gear and get another midi controller.

COOL!

Good advice.

Its just that they are sitting there…unusable.

The software that came with the U8 is so old and only works with an older version of Cubase.

The QX3…well yeah…nothing doing there.
