Just finished watching this video and certainly learned more than a few things. Even when I went to school for audio engineering was taught that a digital signal is represented as a staircase.

Note: this might be a little more advanced for the average person to understand

This is a fantastic video. Worth watching repeatedly.

Some old digital hardware, like the SID chip, along with simple soft synths will manage to exhibit the stairstepping even on analog… the first synth I ever wrote suffered from this, but it can actually sound pretty cool if you do it on purpose.

This guy is great at explaining this without excessive jargon. Here is Episode 1 of the video and the original article that inspired the videos. I highly recommend anyone who cares about music (which should be you, if you’re reading DJ Tech Tools) to watch/read those.
