Why do people hate Dubstep?

I've only begun to experience that once. Nero was really interesting when I saw them, and I definitely dug that groove. But I had no idea what I was listening to.

Fanny, I fixed your argument for you.

Jay, I see where you're coming from, but apart from some really weird experimental shit, I haven't heard a phrase change in any genre (dance music or not) that surprised me in years with the possible exception of some of the really really out there experimental shit. But I barely consider that music.

Music just is predictable. It's based on patterns and repetition. That's kind of the point.

I think that might be the reason that while I also spin techno, a few breeds of house, and breaks…when I listen to a DJ set, I go straight for deep house and what would have been called progressive a few years ago.

also when it comes down to dubstep mixes i recommend erwtenpellers war of the worlds dubstep mix / audiobook. the most incredible mix ever made

That's the reason I can't stand most EDM.

But not all dubstep is like that. Anything tagged purple is going to be interesting.
This includes: Joker, Ginz, Panty Raid, and others.

I'm not reading 8 pages of this, but I will give my honest opinion to the original question.

It's too harsh. That's the same reason I never got in to Electro (the first time round, not when that Swedish lot decided it was cool). It's very testosterone, there seems to be no melody and lots of "Grrrrrrrrrrrrr"ing.

Now having said that I am well aware that lots of people told me exactly the same thing when I was growing up listening to Acid House. "That's not music, it's all done by machines, you don't need talent to make a noise like that, it's sung in an echo chamber, no talent, etc, etc, etc)

My take on it would simply be allow people to 'Let loose' on any music they want. The opinions of people who try to force a type of music on you are not worth listening to. They have probably been force fed whatever it is they are listening to in spades. Instead listen to whatever inspires, moves or relates to you.

Growing up on a council estate in Scotland in the 80's secretly listening to Prince and Sade in my bedroom taught me that.

I've had the unfortunate displeasure of seeing Panty Raid, prior to a Modeselektor show. Wow, was he awful. But again, that's just my opinion... And we know that old saying about opinions right? ;)

Few reasons:
1. My 56k dial up modem sounds better then most of the songs
2. Hate the comments on YT like "this is how it sound Optimus Prime having sex"
3. Old folks call Arkham Asylum employees when I listen to it in my car

But it is the weird stuff of today like prodigy and fatboy slim long time ago...Just give it a bit more time ;)
