I was a linux fan for a while until I got a mac. Just felt like Linux was the junior varsity version of OS X.

Curious - are you able to run any software in Linux? such as Traktor? School me up.

I used to have a old G4 back in 2002-2003 which i loved but when I moved house I got rid to get some "furnishings" for our flat on the gf's say so (don't worry I dumped her eventually) as she had a really nice top range pc. We had nothing but problems with it and i kind of stuck to pc's from then on becuase of money. Then the light at the end of the tunnel came in January this year where I bought myself, as a late, self indulgent xmas pressie:
Macbook Pro 15.4', 2.55ghz, 4gb ram, 250gb hd, LED backlit + 1tb time machine and Apple TV for wireless shananigans and I have been in an apple-with-a-small-bite-out-of-it shaped heaven ever since!!!!
MBP, 15.4", Ableton Live 8 Suite, Novation Remote SL, Pioneer XDJ-RX, Traktor, VCI 100SE!

Isn't mac ocx based on Unix? You can thank Linux developers for that one...

I don't think Linux created Unix. Unix has been around since the 70's I think. Linux is the name of the kernal used. Yes, both systems are unix based though. I have nothing against, Linux. I loved using mint helena, but it has way too many limitations. The only digital systems i could use were xwax and mixxx? If I could've used traktor on it - I would've stayed with it. Oh and it was not as stable as OS X snow leopard. Not once has my mac frozen up on me, i had a few with helena. Even still, it was much better than any windows I've used.

i think bell actually made it for phones in the 70s or 60s yeah. but I run traktor and ableton under linux fine. Fedora mostly. They plenty stable these days. I mainly like it because I can use mac or windows software. I use mac for my work and windows for my gaming and everyday use. I have 3 computers running at all times usually (my mac is at work not on my desk) 1 for whatever 1 for making beats one for mixing. I work in a sign shop so the mac is graphic design only and I have a commadore64 for chiptune music that doesnt get a whole lot of use these days. Has mssiah on it

Linux has come leaps and bounds even in the last couple of years. And yes, both Mac and Linux are based off of Unix, which is a lot more stable than anything Microsoft has come up with.

I would love to use Linux, but it seems relatively difficult to "jump in" for someone not used to it and not using it in a work environment.

I understand why they don't, but the only thing I would like about Mac/Apple more was if they were open-source. Right now I've never been a Mac user, and I keep getting my thoughts toward getting one.
