but is the volume knob seriously on the back!?

Yup it's on the back .... damn fine speakers btw, I've borrowed a mates when I've set up rigs in country houses etc to use as monitors.

The volume knob is on the back of the unit but you have to remember the input monitor volume is more of a gain control so its not meant to be increased and decreased all the time, you do that through your mixer or whatever else you are using to send your sound with. I dont usually put my neck out there and recommend products but I searched a long time for powered monitors in this price range and nothing else comes close. My only tweak with these things is the power button. Its positioned between the XLR input and power input so it can be awkward finding it especially the speaker on my right side.

i second this. ive heard a lot but im still confused about them && i never see anyone use them @ gigs so im a little skeptical

Guys these arent meant to be used at gigs they are Studio Monitors not a PA system. If your looking for just really big sound then buy really big speakers with a really big amp. These are Powered Reference Monitors meant to be played at a decent volume and not to shatter windows. It really comes down to how you intend to use them. Are you going to take what you use to play at home on the road for small local gigs? Then dont buy them but if you do what I do and practice a few hours a week and dabble in production here and there than by all means grab them.

btw Dj Solus I didnt mean to put your post up in the spotlight I just wanted people to understand the difference.

oh yeah i already know that, i forgot to mention in first post that i wanted these in my room as monitors, not for gigs. for gigs i prefer spinning @ a club that already has all the equipment so i just bring my cds. my equipment will stay home. =] so these are just for my room and not to abuse in volume now since i'm well aware that you get the perfect sound when the volume is not blasted, i won't be blasting it considering that in this town where high volume music isnt allowed, i will keep them low so i will get the benefit of hearing nothing but clear crisp music so the best part about it is that i'll never blast them. (i live in apt building)
