    Default Sample Sources...

You're sitting there watching some old obscure movie, and you recognize a line of dialogue as something you've heard sampled in a track...

they could be considered R&B or Blues, but they are not famous in anyway outside of electronic music, not even in R&B or Blues, that sample is more famous than the band it came from ever will be.

if your like me and used to be an avid breaks & beats dj aka the old soul funk and r&b of the 60's & 70's, you can't help but spot those breaks being used even today, I picked up a house tune the other day recent one, which i swear they used the incredible bongo band either that or it sounded identical!

It's "Color Him Father"... oh yeah i got the 45. It's a great song, the vocal melody was even stolen by Huey Lewis on "I want a new drug"

And the Winston's are actually a really respected soul band. Don't get me wrong, they got nothing on Maceo Parker and the JB's.
But to say they're not even famous outside of electronic music, they had several billboard hits in the late 60's.
They, like so many other great soul artist, seem to be fading out now-a-days. For me, they all have a place in my record collection.

people are to used to the newer versions of soul, my latest purchases outside of EDM have been huge amounts of swing, jump blues and blues along with some jazz blues, some of the sounds that you could take are brilliant

as for more modern soul by far favourite band of the recent years has to be The Rebirth who i think are amazing, but i think soul r&b has kinda lost its way for me personally, it's why if your in the car and i am not listening to some form of EDM, then it's mainly old breaks and beats the full songs of course maceo the headhunters sly and the family incredible bongo band, or anything of my new fave old style label Daptone Records, likes of Sharon Jones and Dapkings, the budos band who are brilliant and sugarman three..

Lol, I don't want to actually call myself a DJ yet, But in the past hour and 15 minutes, while I was supposed to be working at my job, I read this thread.

I now know what an amen break is, and it's already annoying me...

I found the youtube crossfader thing, which is awesome!

You know you're a dj when you lose your job because you were studying the amen break.
