    - do you have any tiesto?
    - do you have any scooter?

both at the same gig, a breakbeat-themed night, mind you. wow, just... wow.

I gave the tiesto guy a look that said "get the fuck out or I'll kill you with a spoon". he understood. the scooter guy, however, was more persistent, so I put on modeselektor's "hyper hyper" remix - but then the guy actually dared to come back and complain that it wasn't the original...

    *this* close to going postal.

but then there's things that make you smile when you think back... at one of my recent gigs I was blessed with a beautiful crowd that just went apeshit over dnb. at some moment I decided to get into a liquid-ish vibe to make the girls happy for a change... soon as I did, however, all of a sudden this half-naked chick (it was insanely hot, people stripped down to their underwear; if I hadn't brought my big-ass fan, I probably would've dehydrated and collapsed - no shit) jumps up onto my table, basically slamming her tits into my face, and yells "HARDER!! MORE EVIL BASS!! RAAAR!!!".

grin. backspin. techstep. frenzy. then the cops closed us down, but damn was it awesome.

Me and my two mates were doing a weekly for the longest time, it was a contemporary house and techno night. Really deep and heady stuff and we had a decent following and the crowd was always for up it and knowledgeable as well. But this one night when I was playing this girl who I've never seen came up and asked if we were going to play any "trance, like you know Tiesto, Paul van Dyke or Armin van Buuren".

I was so flabbergasted I didn't even reply, just stared at her with this dumbfound look on my face and just kept on playing. Never saw her again after that. Should have know though, as he was dressed as a total candy raver from the 90's = /

As for a good one, happened recently actually. Got invited to play at a weekly party that's been going on for a number of years now on a Friday night. They are trying to get more into the techier/technoish side of house now and as such are asking a number of different DJ's to come play (they usually do some really deep and soulful stuff). I was actually headlining the night so I had a ways to go before I was on. The two guys before me did a really good job, good music and good mixing but no groove. It was almost a bit too techy I'd say for a crowd that's use to more deep house stuff.

By the time I go on the dance floor is empty and a lot of people are just hanging out outside smoking and drinking. I get on, and start working my brand of deep and techy, but groovy house. I've been drinking so I'm just dancing and rocking out by myself on the stage. And before I know it the crowd is coming back and and dancing. Everyone was coming up and saying they were enjoying the tune and were loving how much fun I was having more than anything else. Some random dude actually came up to me and gave me a big bear hug and said I saved his night. Best compliment ever. It's nights like those that keep me going and make me want to keep DJing.

Moral of the story? Smile and have fun already!

So this one time when i was doing the club gig thing the son of the owner (newly appointed entrainment manager.. wtf?) came up to me with a list of songs and a wallet of CD's.

    He said:

"I only want you to play songs off this list and these CD's" (im not kidding, he actually said this)

    to which i replied:

"Im a DJ not fu*king iTunes"

    lol

Well, i was dj'ing at a friends party, the guests liked my music. But then all of a sudden, some had decided they didn't like House anymore or something.
So this guys comes up to me and asks: "Do you have Six Feet Under - TNT ?", i was shocked :O. But me, as a fan of AC/DC said: "AC/DC version is much better!". But the smartass said: "Ur a DJ, you also use other peoples songs".

I was staring at my Traktor for like 2 minutes until my deck began to flash, the 30 second warning...

DJing a house party, mostly my friends, im past the warm up stage and everyones drunk and dancing (if im doing a bpm build up, were getting a song or two into the 110s-120s). Then a girl comes up and requests dubstep.

I've tried saying I don't have any, I've tried saying ok in a minute, I've even tried saying I don't play dubstep. But dubstep girls are persistant people! anyways, for the only two times ive actually taken their request- the room clears and people stop dancing. I mean a room full of 50 plus people will all of a sudden stop dancing. As if they all put their hands in the middle of a big circle of people and said "BREAK!".

On the upside, people generally loved my music choices until the dubstep came in. I even had a girl i didnt know come up and say "your DJing was amazing! until that bitch bothered you to play that crap"

I should just get a shirt that says "Don't ask me to play shit"
