Setup question!

Hi guys,

for years I've been running a setup consisting of 2 x 1200's, 2 x CDJ-800's and one four channel mixer but recently I've been thinking of slimming it down and thought the Vestax VCI-100 mk2 might do the trick... But... It only seems to have one rca input.

What I want to do is:

- Keep all tracks on my computer (will probably be using Traktor as software)
- Do all the mixing, scratching etc on a mixer/controller
- Be able to connect both of my 1200's to the mixer/controller and use it to incorporate "normal" vinyls in my mix

I've been dj'ing for 15 years but technology really isn't my thing, so if anyone has any good input on this I'd really appreciate it!

You won't be able to do that with the VCI. I dont want to sound like a broken record, but the upcoming S4 which will be released in a couple of weeks will do exactly what you want. It will come with the Traktor Software and has all the inputs to connect your TT's to and with Traktor Scratch support coming to it you'll be able to use Timecode with it to.

you could go the traktor scratch pro route and an x1 for the more in depth effects and looping cues etc this would keep your analogue element and give you more freedom to use effects loops cues etc

I'm not sure you can use the X4 as an external mixer now that I think about it. And I'm reading that the S4 software may need to be running for the controller to operate. So this may not be the best solution for you.

Hmm... Tricky business, this.

It seems pretty stupid, but maybe I could use a small 2-channel mixer for the 1200's, and connect that mixer to the aux input on the VCI-100.

Ya there's that option. I'm not sure if the 2-channel mixer routing into the VCI-100 would work (i have no idea, it probably will) but I do know if you route them into a 4 channel mixer, then you can route your vci-100 into the mixer as well and still have a channel left over for whatever ya want

Just to be clear: I don't want to play timecoded vinyls on it. Just good old normally pressed vinyls.

Is the S4 able to control the gain + EQ's of an analogue input on the "mixer"?

Yeah you can use two channels on the S4 to eq your TT's and leave the other two in midi mode.

Seems like this Reloop thingy also does what I'm after - but Reloop has always felt a bit dodgy to me...

Anyone ever tried it?

American Audio VMS4 or Hercules Rmx / 4mx will probably also do the trick and weed out the necessity for an extra mixer.. you can switch the input channel to phono/line like you would a normal mixer (not sure about eq's on the herc)

Citronic also seem to be coming out with a similar midi/analogue controller soon enough called MPx-10 .. not much info on it online apart from it appearing in their catalogue. http://citronic.co.uk/catalogue
