Clearly manufacturers should just come in here and ask us instead of beating around the bush, it would save them a ton in R&D haha

we had a similar thread in here before. USB and Firewire ports where designed to use very little force to insert.

    From Wikipedia:
Only a moderate insertion/removal force is needed (by specification). USB cables and small USB devices are held in place by the gripping force from the receptacle (without the need for the screws, clips, or thumbturns that other connectors require). The force needed to make or break a connection is modest, allowing connections to be made in awkward circumstances or by those with motor disabilities.
For most users, this is a good thing. But in situations like in a DJ booth, it's dangerous. I've seen two good solutions. You can use aluminum duct tape, cut it the length of the male plug, and wrap it around to create a snugger fit. Alternatively, you can use something like a toothpick as a wedge. Personally, I carry a roll of painters tape and tape down the cables to the table just outside the computer.

I have been thinking about adding a tiny bit of solder to make the connections a bit fatter so they have sit in tigther.

So what we need it a cross of these two lovely cords... I don't use firewire, but I know the strife.

I also have a bit of wide masking tape wrapped around it to make it a bit thicker so the card can take a bit of a pull without comming out.
Does having this type of card add some extra latency on the system or is it the same as having the ports integrated on the motherboard?

It depends on the driver IC used by device, but so does the overall latency of your built in port.

It most likely connects to the southbridge via the same interface as the main driver
