my first post on this forum! my laptop got stolen about 6 months ago and i got a vista replacement, at first it really annoyed me and 'out of the box' windows media player couldnt even play an mp3 without glitching constantly, also it constantly harrassed me about everything i chose to do - but after optimising traktor, reason and live run smoothly and iv not had a crash. i used this guide to optimisation as i always did with my xp installations, highly recommended http://www.blackviper.com/

The blackviper site is really helpful, but i was wondering if it was possible to create a separate DJ account in Vista, that had the unnecessary services or processes disabled. I tried following the windows optimization guide, but it turns out Vista can't create hardware profiles, like XP.
Anyone know a work around this?

I just finished HUUUUUUGEEE cleanup, and fresh reinstall of my VAIO.
    1) for some reason i wasn't able to switch to XP (we did everything with that Nlite nonsenses and got the right set of drivers but in the end when system started it crashed due to "low memory alert" - actualy very funny, you just see low memory something something and then it immeadiately restarts, you don't even have time to finish reading the alert message)
    2) so i went back to original Vista release backup.
    3) found this DAW-->VISTA guide and went through
    http://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/...nstall%20error

the plus is, that the guide is optimized for Vista, so you won't have to use XP guides.

    4) i just tried the DJ user thing, but as far as i am concerned there is no HW profiles in Vista - so I will be propably switching off stuff in device manager manually before every Traktor DJ-related session.

Q: about that DJ User thing: in Vista i noticed when i prohibit something from starting up in MSconfig or If i ban any services it doesn't involve only the current user, but all of them. So it is probably same story as with those HW profiles --->can't be done in VISTA... or cannit? Alex?

I am a happy Windows Vista user, probably because I use it on a top spec Sony Vaio.

exactly! Vista is such robust OS than XP that it works great on powerful machines, welcome to the club mate

well, i am no Vista expert, but i am pretty sure it's the same bussiness as with hardware profile, simply put - you can't..

Anyway, last night i went to betatest this new setup and I succesfully brought down the latency to 3,5ms mark (measure in TSPRO) with timecode and 2 decks. I can even go down to 1,5 mark, but that has to be tested.
