Sadly, this also still happens in Germany. Especially in some of the bigger name mainstream clubs. When in doubt, have a CD wallet ready - and it helps to know how to handle those players.
At the smaller, more underground clubs, especially those that are already more open-minded on the genre side, you usually can bring whatever you want as long as you show up early enough to hook it up and at least check if there's enough space.
Back on topic, being prepared is basically what opens doors and brings respect. There have been occasions where bringing a tiny little Faderfox saved whole events, because some idiot had spilled beer into the turntables the evening before, the club owner had given away the CDJs to the other room and kinda forgot to tell about both of it. Or the festival sound guy thought it was a good idea to place the subs directly below and the monitors on top of the same table and right next to the turntables. In the end, it's not about the gear or medium, it's about how to handle and being prepared for as many possible scenarios as possible.
That's kinda what I think what earns you respect, at least in my experience. Judging by my own respect for other DJs, I kinda don't enjoy it too much either if some guy turns up at 1:30 a.m. with it's V7 and a crap-o-la mixer, kills the sound while replugging the whole booth right in the middle of someone else's set, destroys the sound because he doesn't know what those red LEDs on the mixer are supposed to be, then crashes Itch three times in 90 minutes and still thinks he did great. OR the vinyl guy that turns up, realizing that the ortofons are completely f***ed or stolen, and can't play at all 'cause he refuses to bring an emergency CD wallet, claiming anything else than vinyl is not "real".
Professionalism+versatility=>Respect. No matter what's your weapon of choice. At least in my book. Not that this matters for anyone here![]()

much as i like turntables it's cdj's that are probably the current king in most clubs. imho dvs is trying to hold on to dying technology while using the new, tho will probably be the choice of scratch dj's for a long time to come - but thats only a fairly small % of all dj's.
