Thanks for the input guys, I'll just wait and see what happens from a financial perspective.
the tunes I want seem to go for €8-11 in my local record store, and around €8 on the labels websites. Thats kinda holding me back, but then again the feeling of rocking a crowd is priceless. Sorry if this feels like a massive cocktease to you because I don't have a final awnser regarding what I'm gonna do.

It will be 1200's for at least another 10/15 years.

One thing to remember about buying vinyl is that it always retains some resale value. In rare cases, the resale value after a few years can be WAY more than you originally paid for the record. The resale value of downloaded music is always £0.

I think part of the record collector's mentality is wanting to own that physical item though. It's about having something you can hold and look at, the cover art, the liner notes - all that stuff. If you don't have that (whatever "that" is) in your blood, then record collecting will never be for you as you only look at the end result - the song itself - and so an MP3 is no different to you than a record in that respect.

Get two tech 12's and you wont be disappointed. Still have great sound and are built like tanks. I would never give up my turntables i love the "dj symbol" aspect of them and they are just timeless, not to mention an investment these days because Technics discontinued making them.

I've been djing with Traktor and a midi controller for last few years. Never even touched a turntable before, but I just bought a mint set of mk2s in oddysey cases for $780(including the boxes they came in!) I have only a few records and my mixer jank, but I LOVE THEM! I'm saving for an audio 10, which might be a few months, but these turntables will probably outlive me. BUY THEM.

Vinyl is not on its deathbed. It was the fastest growing music format of 2010.

And all I have to mix with is few of my parents old disco records. And not even good disco records! Lol As a matter of fact, one compilation album has a track called "Push In the Bush". And as you may have guessed, the gal in the song says that "you know that you want to push push in the bush" lol. Like the guy said earlier, you can't buy this stuff on beatport.
As long as you find the right soundcard for the software your using, record collecting is optional.

lol, it actually says "According to recent Nielsen SoundScan numbers, vinyl was the fastest-growing musical format in 2010, with 2.8 million units sold, the format's best year since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991."

FastesT GROWING....and since there is no other musical format coming out or coming back ( doubt the 8-track is making a comeback) it really isn't saying much....

Check out this viperfrank guy's videos to get an idea on how to adjust the brake and the pitch fader and other maintenance.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-Ncd...?v=L-NcdnCL41Y
Check out the vinyl engine for service manuals and info on weights for needles http://www.vinylengine.com/turntable-database.php

It won't take long to pick it up. I was cueing up tracks and beatmatching them in no time. Just a different format music player.
