I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.

Call me a hippy, but I can't get on board with anyone threatening violence (no matter how tongue in cheek) over something as trivial as DJing skills (or lack there of).

i don't really know how to feel about this right now. i mean i respect the man but he seems to try wage war against everybody (afrojack, AN21, steve angello, max vangeli) and everything popular when all he does is spread some bad vibes and getting even uninvolved people pissed (chuckie, junior sanchez). i mean c'mon. don't you have anything better to do? calling steve angello out was one thing but he is just making himself seem ridiculous in my opinion. i mean he either is really dwelling on that shit or he sure is trying to provoke hard.

My thoughts on gimmicks is they better be damn good, or it is just not worth it. Rabbit In The Moon, great gimmick with a full blown stage show, terrific music. Some guy in a mask jumping around, pretty lame.

Did they have a gimmick? I had no idea - I thought they just made absolutely stunning music.

In a similar way, I had absolutely no idea that Lady Waks was hot until I went to hear her play, and happened to incidentally see her.

And this is the fundamental issue here. Most people go to "see" a DJ. I don't. From that perspective, Aoki (/SHM/David Guetta/Skrillex/Deadmau5 delete as appropriate) and his antics/music HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO BEARING ON ME OR MY LIFE. It's of no importance.

It's not even a new thing, and not even related to Electronic Dance Music specifically. Someone's mentioned KISS - a pretty ordinary rock'n'roll band who got big with a gimmick. Heck, Elvis was "the pelvis". The Beatles (another, let's face it, pretty ordinary rock'n'roll band in the beginning at least) had their Mop Tops.

Commercial success is commercial success. I couldn't care less if I get it or not. I just want to play the music I love ...

Sounding tough and being tough are 2 very different things, but I use my real name here so people know who I am in person.

I'm not seriously going to beat some guy up over his terrible "music" and his acts of bafoonery... I'm simply just expressing how much I dislike this clown's style, or lack there of..

I guess I'll be the first to admit that I'm incredibly jealous of Aoki, SHM, Bl3nd, and anyone else of the likes. I'd love to live their life. Do I agree with everything they do and do I like all of their music? No. But would I give anything to be where they are, living the high life, doing what they love for a living? Absolutely.

Reading some of these posts here makes me realize why some people think we're such assholes. Look at the language you're using to belittle somebody who is living their life the way they want. At least have the decency to appreciate that these guys are managing to do what we have always wanted to: Make a living off of what we love.

I see it differently. I see these guys sullying and destroying the music and scene that I love. That's where the hate stems from.

You should youtube for the video of shows. Live they would do things like pull someone out of the crowd and put a metal mask on them and then put a grinder to it, insane costumes, disco ball suit, 16 legged creatures, crowd diving covered in glow sticks, and it only got weirder year after year. At the same time last time I caught them live, David Christopher played Happy Birthday to you as a sad jazz song for 10 minutes and it was amazing. Is it a gimmick, hell yeah, but way over the top, I mean more than any rock band, and extremely entertaining. Also the music was pretty amazing, I'm convinced the first time I saw them, Monk was playing records, David was playing a theremin, and Bunny was doing a stage show. A huge gimmick that bowled me over every time I saw them "play".
