To clarify, the ONLY way this would even make the smallest bit of sense is if you were outputting S/PDIF and the surround processor had a DSP in it which took its sweet ass time decoding the signal. Sound waves themselves have a latency of 0.3ms/m, incidentally.
I was talking about the latency between the sound wave leaving a speaker and entering your ear which can be variable can't it?

If the speaker is further, the latency would be longer, would it not?

Yes, the latency increases by 0.3ms every meter you are away from the speaker.

EDIT: 3ms, sorry. Missed the decimal place in my math :P

I believe the 'latency' being referred to here concerning surround sound systems is due in part to the delays built into a 5.1 system. By setting the receiver to 'stereo' or a dolby 2.1 preset you shouldn't have that problem. At least that's been my experience with home systems...

Yeah, I tried it on my home Theater System here at home and there's no noticeable latency if I put it on stereo but virtual surround is a bit slow.

Just got back from my first Gig

Everything went great! The Bose system worked wonders. Very loud and clear Bass, and the speakers held out all night!

People loved my music and mixing! I just need some more Spanish & Polish music (Personal, but any Suggestions?) Thanks for all the tips so far, DJ Tech Tools! Hope to get more advice and tips to make my next gig even better
