Please, what ever you do just buy the Official Apple Convertor. A HUGE percentage of the 3rd party 30pin to lightening convertors do NOT pass audio & power and this is proved time and time again over at the NI forum.

As much as they are, the Apple convertors are worth the money.

    Bad cheap, Buy twice.

BTW - It is clearly stated on the Z1 product page that the Apple 30pin convertor is required for iPad4/Mini. This should not be a surprise to anyone (even though it is annoying).

.........And for the love of GOD can people stop recommending that different methods of converting 30pin to lightening work because they don't. Period.

I wish I'd have thought about this properly and mentally added an extra £25 to the price of the Z1. Oh well, it's only money.

EDIT: Oops, gimme a few minutes.

EDIT2: The fact that China can't clone these things is MENTAL.

There seem to be plenty of adapter clones on Ebay? I wouldn't trust them though, based on the amount of electronics that go into the Apple adapter (which also explains the cost).

I meant clone the ICs as well. That's the problem with the current Chinese clones, they're all "no analog or USB audio/video". Jesus Christ China, it's not hard... take an Apple adapter, decap the ICs, stick 'em under a scanning electron microscope, and manufacture copies.

Even if they sold them at $15 a pop, they'd still make a KILLING.

Yeah, you don't want to cheap out on something that you depend on to work during a set. It's just not worth it when it's one of the cheapest parts of your setup.

I cheaped out on buying an iPhone car charger on eBay and it almost fried my phone. I never made that mistake again.

The Apple brand chargers in particular get excellent feedback, based on how clean and consistent the output power is viewed through an oscilloscope.

Would you ever buy a Chinese cloned sound card as part of your setup? There's a DAC in the Lightning-30pin adapter too.

Of course. They're ALL built in China anyway, usually by the same factories.

No, you wouldn't. Noone uses cheap knockoff sound cards for a gig. Some gear may be generic OEM rebadged from China but decent manufacturers actually design their own products. Also not all equipment is made in China. CDJs and DJMs are made in Malaysia for example.

The cheap cloned adapters are obviously not made in the same factories which is why there is a significant delay in their release after the official product, and why quality is severely lacking.
