In the DJ tips video it says you can't change the bpm at all? Is that true? That kinda sucks.

Someone could edit mapping for that functionality.

(Shift + push to activate, touch enter BPM mode, turn strip in to Tempo adjust in relative mode, use encoder to fine adjustment, Shift + push to go back to looping)

Can anybody say more about touch strip? Is resolution pretty good?

Also about the firmware. Does it have multiple CC capabilities for controlling pitch for both decks at a time? (could be a mapping trick too)

The DJ tips video is mistaken. He actually corrects himself at digitaldjtips.com in the written review (he made the video before NI sent the manual). Tempo change is easily done by pressing SYNC+LOOP ENCODER (and the current BPM will actually display right on the X1.

As far as resolution, you can actually quickly switch between a split touch strip (left half and right half control separate decks) to using the whole strip for a single deck. To assign an effect to the touch strip, you just push and hold an effect button then tap the touch strip. It's pretty cool.

Isn't that what I said? Makes me think that in multi deck mode the X1 sent two mapping events.

I actually like the touchstrip for nudging now that I've gotten used to its sensitivity.
What do you mean by elegant? Doesn't seem like much of a process to adjust a tempo with the encoder and then nudge it in with the strip.

It's not much of a "process", but pressing and holding sync with one hand then turning the loop encoder knob with the other isn't as efficient or precise as moving a pitch fader. Also, the knob changes the BPM in distinct (somewhat large) increments, meaning you might never be able to get the exact BPM you want (although maybe this can be changed in settings).

    That's a deal killer

You know, it would be awesome if you could reverse the default function of the loop encoder. Then, turning the encoder would change BPM, and Sync + Encoder would change loop length. I would much rather have to hold an extra button for loop length.

If thats a deal killer then the X1 is never going to be suitable for you. Although im almost certain you would be able to adjust the settings for a finer adjustment.
