I know for my music collection I switched to iTunes Match and have been moving to put tracks on the cloud which is nice because it allows me to limit my collection and I can prep a playlist and then analyze it and use it between devices I highly recommend it for the 26$ a year it costs of say has exceeded my expectations

Does Itunes Match allow you to use ALAC, or is it all AAC?

If it doesn't match it will upload the file itself and then can download to any device... For tracks it matches they are 256k AAC and if and when a higher bitrate option becomes Available it will upgrade all fies automatically it also upgrades all purchased to higher bitrate option.... And purchased tracks don't count against the 20,000 limit... It works well with matching although I found ones that it doesn't match of you find it in the store and make sure the file name is the same it will then find it.... Was rather shocked how well it worked with a back catalog of 192k vinyl rips I did 15 years ago
