Certainly not the point i was making.
I like La Roux. She was around on the indie/electro scene a good 8 months before she was huge and i was hammering Quicksand (first time around).
By problem is that the Skream mix just isnt that good. Thats it. Not cus its Skream.
If you ask me about Skream himself i can tell you stories of how he is a liability at a gig and how he intakes a certain substance that should only be given to horses and how he drinks 2 bottles of vodka before a gig and has to be carried almost unconscious to the hotel because he is a spoilt brat. But thats another story

Agreed. Some decent house coming thru to the mainstream.
Of course there tons of good house out there especially new disco and (hate this discredited term) Blog House.

agree with the nu disco stuff. its getting better. not really too into 2009 electro, seems to have peaked 2007. but its still fun to jam to!

sidenote/ot: 'blog' house, indie/electro and other hypem friendly music seems to have a super bad reputation in the dj community. i think it just became too 'accessible' for some people. reminds me of when i was in high school, 'pssh! i listened to 'indie band name' before they went mainstream.' i understand that there has been a surge of dj's, and sure, plenty arent great, but at least there is some revived interest? =D

To completely honest, I'm a little impressed with the dark, spacey disco that has been becoming more popular this year. It's gotten to a point where it's standing on its own with a wide variety of tempos and a good, solid pack of labels and producers each with unique, idiosyncratic sounds.

Fake Blood's live set at the White Room in Miami last March tops my best of 09.

Blog-bound music jumping the shark has less to to with its accessibility and a lot more with its lack of originality. HypeM driving down the standards of dance music over the past year gets my worst of 2009.

Nu-Disco has completely taken over my musical life and reshaped what i thought i wanted to do with DJing/Live PA. It all started with the Lindstrom and Prins Thomas essential mix from 08 i believe, and slowly but surely has increased into a massive HDD full and crate digging into night for that synth-y gem to reedit.

I never would of thought, a former punk kid turned hiphop turntablist now infatuated with disco.

    Best
-that whole 2 step/dubstep variation thing happening (martyn, Untold, Faltydl, Hessle Audio (pearson sound, ramadanman), 2000f )
-Parties out of the megaclubs and into back into the streets/warehouse/outooors
-Solid returns (e.p.'s) and live sets by some old favorites: Jeff Mills, Robert Hood, Octave One, Todd Edwards, MK
-The lo fi sound: ex: Pépé Bradock - Path Of Most Resistance
-Quality blog podcast ex: mnmlssgs, FACT, LWE, xlr8r
-Not mad at the new disco that was made in 09' either
    Worst
Well I could really go on couldn't I.
seeing Aoki & his fans live and in action was one of them

    Best new Trend:

That deep, ethnic house sound that's been gaining steam since the beginning of summer. Examples being Michel Cleis -La Mezcla and anything by Nick Curly and his label for the most part. Can't deny the groove!

    Worst of trend.
Mashups, Mashups and more Mashups! Still the big thing over here in the US, and in 09 EVERYONE was doing it here it seems. Plus 80's theme nights need to die the phuck off already! The one flaw with playing tunes from the 80's is that there's NO NEW tunes coming out. All 80s DJs are the same, that being horrible and very predictable.

No sir, you are my hero for that Shazam remix of Empire of the Sun you posted, seriously love that track. got the new Holy Ghosts remixes 2cd, its like sex in my ears.

San Diego is devoid of any disco-ish nonsense, hoping to try and change that a bit. Harvey played here at this guy i knows loft downtown few weeks ago, 7 hours of smokey awesomeness, such an awesome show.

WORST trend: dubstep. Ya, i went there.
