You'll be very happy with the TMA-1s.

Everyone has their issues with the Sony MDR V700, but I've had mine for over 5 years, and I have not had 1 problem with em. . .except for replacing the earpads (pain in the arse!)

I'm just tossing more options out there for ya that I'm a lil more familiar with:
The Pioneer HDJ-2000 are awesome cans (outta yer price range though).
Sony MDR-7509HD are real nice. I use these for my own studio, and have done gigs with em as well. ($20 over yer budget)
Shure SRH750DJ are pretty decent, but the question for me is isolation for studio use and logevity. (around $150).

Personally, I'd stay away from the Arial-7 (sound quality is so-so. Basically Sony MDR V700 knockoffs in different colors), Monster Beats (great, lound, & OVERPRICED!), and Skullcandy (sound quality SUCKS!).

Like most everyone said. . .It is all up to you and what your comfortable with.
Valid point - no '1 cup option' with tma-1's - but I don't use/need it. Beats are a pain in the ass - high maintenance gloss, batteries etc. I doubt they will last as well - lots of criticism on breakage - I concur great sound 'tho. Aerial and SK not an option.

My HD25s survived a car wreck that ruined a macbook and an iPod that were in the same soft laptop case as them and that also totaled the car and left me strapped to a back brace in a trauma ward for 6 hours…I was fine and the headphones just needed a new headband, and i went ahead and upgraded to the velour ear pads.

I'm wearing them right now, and they sound at least as good as they did when I got them…in February of 2006. The wreck was in January of 2007. They're still on the original cables, even.

I'm sure TMA-1s are great cans, but I honestly can't see owning any other headphones at this point.

I'm going to cry if they ever actually wear out or die.

Yeah forget Beats. I got to try a few at CES and they sounded fine, a bit boomy, but the look really isn't all that and they are way too expensive for the sound you get out of them. I didn't even know they needed batteries too -- lame! I also saw some at Best Buy the other day and 2 of them were broken -- the headpiece was just cracked in half.
