    Hey all,

Sorry if this has already been talked about, but I'm considering buying Maschine, but now that the F1 is coming out im sort of in between. I realize the huge price difference, but I feel like with the Maschine, I'll be able to use Maschine, and also set up a midi-control situation that would be similar to the F1 for Traktor 2.5 (please correct me if I am wrong here). I know I'll be missing the colorful pads and the faders won't be as intuitive as the knobs at the top of the maschine, but I feel like I would rather have the maschine at this point. Can anyone else convince me otherwise?

    Thanks!

Ps. I mainly Dj at this point but I have been salivating watching some of maschines functionalities. I used to produce music but got really tired of the mouse, the maschine would significantly improve workflow and enjoyment of making beats. Plus I love the fact that you can make a loop and drag and drop it into Traktor. I feel like I'm answering my own question now by typing it out but feedback would be helpful too.

If your intention is to be making your own rhythm samples, then your going to need the Maschine. You're also going to need a mapping to control the Mix Decks with the Maschine. I am sure it won't be long before one comes out. I might make one myself. But, without a mapping, you won't be doing anything with the new Mix Decks and the Maschine. That is where the F1s will be killer.

I would definitely Map something out right away with the Maschine. I do like the fact that the F1 will be ready to go for that situation, but a mapping of the maschine shouldn't take more than two hours (at least that is my estimation). I do intend to make my own rhythms and then export them into the Mix Decks, and from there run a performance of whatever I have and record...and in that respect I feel like I can just shoot two birds with one stone by buying the maschine. The difference in size between the two might be an issue, I am in an apartment and running my gear over a 2x4 expedit unit. Might have to get out the x-stand for extra room with the maschine.

So is it safe to assume that the different colors of the F1 pads just coordinate with the loop color inside the traktor software? I guess the colors would be nice for visual reference but I usually have decent muscle memory with 16 pads, especially if you practice a song out for a couple of hours.

I still am pretty excited about the F1 though, its a really interesting piece of hardware, and its pretty factor just makes me want it all the more but I think I am convincing myself more and more that the next step is the maschine (at least for me). Does anyone predict that Maschines will be selling used a lot after the F1 releases? I know they serve different functions but I have seen a lot youtube videos where Dj's use the Maschine for the exact purposes of the F1.

Last Question (more geared toward the Maschine): Is it easy to switch from MIDI mode to Maschine Mode (or whatever it is called)? I am guessing NI was smart enough to just make it a 1 button toggle but I thought I would check.

I would say the F1 won't be increasing the used Maschine sales much at all, as the Maschine is a totally different beast. The fact it can possibly control the Mix Decks is just an advantage of the Maschine's great midi capabilities.

And it is two button presses to switch the Maschine to midi mode and back again.
