I dig sets with a ton of tricks and effects and stuff, even though that's not really my sweet spot. But this kind of mix is by far the type of mix I prefer to dance to. If I go out to a bar, I'd much rather hear this than some sort of crazy controllerist routine.

A set like this isn't going to get 1,000,000 hits on YouTube, but it is going to keep the dance floor packed. Well done.

    I like more "simple" mixing.

"DJ Routines" are better for competitions, battles, youtube videos e.t.c, when you can or have to show what you can do with your gear and what skills you have.

THIS. if youre playing a set of an hour or longer, jesus christ, just play some great music! leave the FX and mashing to the "controllerist" routine or youtube vid!

+1 - especially the well picked part. tune selection should be pretty much number 1 in importance.

however... listening to 4/4 for hours on end can get a bit repetitive. so a well placed bass cut, or effect can catch the 'ear' so to speak. it's kinda like cooking i guess, you want the basics right, but a bit of spice works magic :-)

    Haters gonna hate lmao. Thanks!

I think alot of it has to do with people maybe underestimating the job of a dj bc the guy that said it has never mixed in his life and knows nothing about it.

My play on this is, if you are going to do FX or other transition "tricks", then they should sound "simple" to the ear. In other words, if you are going to do something out of the ordinary, it should be so good and professionally well done, nobody really knows it is you "bending" the music to your own will. All the people hear is something different that sounds great and adds to the energy of the mix.

Edit/ and this is what takes time to learn to become a really good DJ. I still have a lot of learning to do myself.
