Overall I say that the Insomniac peeps organized one hell of a show and did their part to make sure everyone was as safe as they could. I am amazed at how much press this issue is getting considering that this is normal for a big music festival. Every year at least one person ends up dead during Bonnaroo and it doesn't seem to become big news.
I agree with both of these comments. In late May we had EDC Orlando and it was HOT... maybe not Dallas hot, but HOT none the less. After going Ultra and some other smaller events I would have to say that Insomniac tired (and did) their best to find the middle ground of policing the ppl and supporting the scene... much more then ULTRA (WMC) EVER HAS.

The last 2 years at Ultra I've seen someone bring in 200 pills, the gate has been rushed and numerous groups of underage kids just completely zombied out of their minds!!! Beer is $7 and WATER is $5 for a bottle!!! It almost makes more sense not to buy water at that price LOL.

At EDC we had to walk through a 3 station check point: ID(18+), Ticket, Search... and right when you step in they had FREE water stations setup; with one purchase of a $10 event bottle you got FREE refills both days.

Regardless of what anyone does or says, we all know that this is just the vicious circle of this scene (and others)... EDM is stronger then its ever been, whether or not that's a good thing has yet to be seen...
    The MUSIC is what matters!

That's only if you're playing dubstep because it doesn't make sense or sound good otherwise!

The age we are in??? Drugs and the use of them recreatioanlly, have been around longer than any of us on this forum have been alive. DUH!

Legal or not has NO effect on wether those die from abuse. "Knowing" about the risks does not save you either.

I am by no means saying drugs are bad OR good. To think your chances are better because you read some internet, or because you talked to some friends, or better yet, because, like me, you took a lot of drugs, makes you more insightful about the risks, and therefore prevents accidents......???? well thats just silly.

All drugs are as natural ("from the earth") as oil. Drinking oil will fuck you up, but that does not mean you should drink it. Just sayin.

If it was an effect after taking something like an E. it'd have been overheating and/or dehydration generally. Pure MDMA is pretty strong and such most users don't managed to take enough to cause heart attacks etc. E's however vary in quality and strength. but generally are not way to strong where normal consumption becomes a problem in it's self. The "bad batch" idea is more of a myth than anything. Think about it, it's not good business sense to kill or dieter your customers is it? I've been clubbing for over a decade now and have seen many people pass out etc. But when only taking the E/mdma collapses/incidents it's pretty much all the time because of my first to points of overheating and dehydration. The UK suffered a much worse period of time with ghb deaths rather than with E's. Of course there was media about suspect E'd related deaths but they were tabloid news stories designed to sell news

Best to drink something electrolytic. Half a teaspoon of table salt in a litre of water helps prevent the leeching of sodium from the cell membranes.

I skimmed through the last few pages and am asking myself what is wrong with some you.
DJTT is about DJing and everything related to it, including lifestyle, but talking about the proper handling of illegal drugs (which is an oxymoron imo) is taking it a bit too far.

Drugs sadly play an undeniable important role in our party-scene. This is likely not to change and ultimately one's own responsibility.

However DJTT is no drug-counselling service.

When a fresh DJ joins this forum and reads the latter pages of this thread what will he think? Certainly not sorry for the guy who died in a tragic accident.

These are just my 2 cents. Feel free to ramble on how important it is to clear things up but then ask yourself again whether this is the right place for it.

It was the same for EDC Dallas this year. There was a 3 station checkpoint where we had to show ID....show ticket....and then empty our pockets and have our stuff looked over. Unless people wanna start demanding that drug sniffing dogs go over everyone or have everyone submit to a full body cavity search there isn't really much more they can do. And I hate to think that it might come to that one year....but Jesus Christ people what ever happened to personal responsibility?

They probably still let you smoke cigarettes outside the venue and drink inside so e is the least of their worries.

The only difference between e and cigarettes is that
    a) cigarettes are objectively worse for you
    and
    b) e is typically a sudden death while cigarettes just kill you over a period of many years.

B is why e is illegal and cigarettes aren't.

Anyway. I don't understand what the big deal is that 1 in 42,000 people died. That's roughly 2.5 out of every 100,000 people, or to put that in perspective - 6.8 per 1000 newborns die every year. Or, 680/100,000 people.

In 2002 42,815 people died in car accidents.

Deaths per person from car accidents in the US - 0.000139459565
Deaths per person from EDC - 0.000023810

You're 486% more likely to die driving to and from the event than actually being there...
