This is interesting news and it's not the first time that a possible midi turntable has been attempted. I really would have loved to see this take off but unfortunately it never got much support. I wonder what would make this one different.

that failed because of DaRouter, poor traktor integration and because it was fire-wire which never took off in laptops. I also think the two tone looks ugly, but that's nothing a tin of paint wouldn't of fixed.

There is already a thread on it where nem0nic talks more about the shortcomings of it. It is only a day since it was last updated.

Pioneer won't take over the market straight away. DJs like their standardised stuff that they know and love and feel comfortable on.
I'd say Pioneer see that Technics will eventually die with them not being made any more and want to be first in line to take over, knowing they're in such a good position with CDJs at the moment.

Is it really a good idea to have all sorts of buttons near a tonearm? Skips, thumps and bumps?

Much as I loved vinyl. I couldn't afford to go back. You spend all those ££'s for usually one mix.

Someone just steal the 7" prototype from technics and build that, get NI and serato to repress their smaller formats and done. enough space for special midi buttons somewhere else. WY ARE WE NOT DOING THIS?

7" timecode does not track very well. Plus you would have to switch to internal mode with 7" as it will run out unlike 12" on long tracks. NI have made 7" timecode (I have it) and it's great fun but not very practical.

Those small Technics are awesome though. If they were midi decks they would be amazing fun.

Didn't really think it through that far tbh so I guess that's too bad then. I really would like them because since I switched to traktor with my Z2, my technics basicly changed into huge and heavy control platters. I still love them to bits, but some more space would be nice. yeah maybe some midi bastard child would bring us just that

Do 7" timecodes not track well because they're 7" records being played on a tonearm meant for 12" records or is it something technical within the timecode vinyl itself? I have no idea...just curious if you happen to know more detail on why the 7" doesn't track as well.

I agree with running out of record on longer songs though.

Meh. It's probably just me, but the more worshiped something becomes, the more skeptical I become.

In my eyes, Pioneer are more pioneers of branding and marketing than of innovation and product development.
They take original ideas, file the edge off, dumb them down and market them well.

I respect their strategic department, but not their products.

They seem to introduce features on their products in accordance with what is popular in "the clubs" rather than what will inspire better music and DJing.
It wouldn't surprise me if this new turntable had a built in airhorn and a drop button.
    Fixing stuff that isn't broken.
