im not sure about other countries around the world, but here in australia we dumped our cdma network about ten years ago in all our major cities then slowly phased it out in rural (country and outback) areas over the coming years to the point where we no longer run it.

There are no Best-Buys in Germany

Personally I think it's a bit overdone this whole 'Der Untergang'-Redubbing

As for the iPad; TouchOSC on that thing should be great!

At first i was like WTF is this shit. But the more I think about it the more I realised this is actually way ahead of the game, just like the iPod was when it first came out. People were like pfffft that wont take off, but now its the standard (this will be the same). This is something completely different that we havnt really seen, and as yet the potential/market for hasn't really been formed.

As already said gaming will be huge (imo iPhone/Touch are too small), espc with the Flash CS5 thing (I'm a flash Dev/Designer and will be SMASHING this shit).

Most news-papers and large scale magazines (and 'News' services in general) are shitting themselves (have been for years) about the death of print, but many are now moving to new service models, this being one (the other is pay websites), iPhone/Touch are ok, but really not ideal for this, they needed a 'standard' device, and the iPad is it.

It looks wack.have you seen the presentation? He spends half of it trying to tell u why it would be good, if it was actually good he wouldn't need to waste all that time. The iPhone is good because it filled the gap in the Market.

this has filled a gap in the market, oversized iphone that can't make calls and has no camera.

who can honestly say they didn't want one of those?

But then again, who uses the camera on their phone seriously?
Also, you can't call with a laptop.

I think this iPad is either a complete miss or a complete hit. There is quite some truth in midians post earlier. It is also only 0,5 inches 'thick' which is amazing.

The question is: whats the advantage of this over an ordinary laptop?

yeah but you don't buy a laptop for phone calls, and the ipad isn't a laptop or a phone.
it's a bit like netbooks; they were crap to start with, only basic word processing and internet. now they come with windows (installed win 7 on the wifes, from xp) and are basically mini laptops (even though you can buy a 'proper' laptop in some of the nb sizes)

maybe the next gen of ipads will be closer to a tablet computer, but this thing just doesn't make any sense at the moment. not when you consider the other tablets that'll be coming out, like the slate which will be actual computers and are answering a gap in the market.

won't dispute that it looks like a nice bit of kit, and is probably pretty cool to use for what it does, but it doesn't do anything new compared to other apple products.

Whether or not I end up using it as a controller, I'm still going to buy an iPad because I can replace 2k+ worth of text books for the next 4 years of college with it, and is lighter than thick magazines. Instead of buying a kindle, which was my first idea, I now have a full color screen and a bazzillion apps. Not to mention, this is only the beginning. Look at the first iPods and 1st gen iPhone? Suck ballz compared to the current models. Skype will work on it so you will be able to make calls(probably 3g calls with a hacked version), my bluetooth headset, mouse, and keyboard will work on it, and who knows what other accessories will be made for it. Plus, who didn't want a 9 inch screen master remote control for any TV/Stereo/computer in the house?

Would I rather have a closer-to-computer style tablet? Don't know till someone makes one worth buying.

Does it fill a gap in the market? Not really, but changes the market a lot. Acer already crapped themselves and said they can't compete at the iPad's price.
