You must have not heard nor seen the Numark DM-1775a, DM-1975 & DM-2175 mixers back in the late 80s to the mid 90s. They had the best samplers and looping back then and they sounded pretty well during those times. They also had delay & echo. So they were not garbage and Pioneer was NOT the first to incorporate effects to a mixer.

DJM mixers and solid enough, but CDJs are still mostly just plastic polished up to look good.
    I agree with this.

And the life of a CDJ in a club seems to be pretty short, before they need to be serviced (2 years maybe). They are repairable, and will keep going, but eventually you'll want new ones.

I have played on a number of CDJ's out at clubs and the weak point is always the cue/play buttons. They start to get really shoddy. You click cue, it doesn't work, or it advances to the next track, etc etc. I've seen this on CDJ-1000's, MK2's, MK3's, and 2000's. I wish they'd use higher quality buttons, given some DJ's really whack the hell out of those buttons.

I have been stood next to DJ's hitting those buttons so hard and so repeatedly I have wanted to do the same to their heads.

I will never understand why these donuts have to bash to hard on a CDJ.

Mixers and turntables get abused just as much as CDJs, and will need regular servicing too.

Theres nothing worse than someone who doesnt know how to properly use turntables hopping on, dropping the nedle (literally) on the record, overstretching the tonearm, opening and closing the target light constantly, over extending the height adjustment, etc.

..and frantic, heavy handed knob twisting gets me worked up as well.

I used the same A&H 92 for 8 years at one of my residencies, I was pretty much the only person to use because most other DJ's preferred to use a DJM800 which was falling apart. The only times it needed to be fixed was after someone else used it.

The rubber was torn off the knobs (not so hard to do but still needed some wragging) and a few faders got wrecked.
