    Default Big APC40 mapping problems.

    Hey guys,

K, let me try and lay all this out without turning it into a novel.

I'm trying to map my APC40 with Traktor. 1st thing I'm trying to do is map the 1st 'Track Selection' button to be "Play/Pause" for "Deck A"... simple enough, only trouble is nothing happens, I get no reaction. Infact, the little MIDI sign at the top of the screen won't light up when any of the "Track Selection" buttons are pressed.

So I thought "fair enough, I'll rethink my setup without those buttons" and decided to use the buttons below for the my "Play/Pause" (the Activator row). The trouble with this is for some weird reason I have to double tap the buttons to get them to work. 1st time I press it, nothing happens, 2nd time, track starts playing. Same when I try to pause.

The whole thing has me baffled. I've uninstalled/reinstalled Traktor,, I dont know what else to try. Only other thing I can think off is it's some problem from the fact I use to use the APC with Ableton

Anyone had any similar problems or know what I'm doing wrong. I'd really REALLY appreciate any help.

    Thanks

Your problem relates to the "interaction mode" of the button. You have it set to TOGGLE, should be set to DIRECT.

The TRACK SELECTION buttons cannot be mapped in Traktor. As far as I know they can only be used in Live.

    Hope this helps.

The Track Selection buttons are confusing to map, until you know the APC's various button modes. If you turn it on, then start Traktor (no Live handshake), you can map the buttons, but the default behavior is if you press one, any other lit Track Selection buttons will turn off - and you are selecting a different channel group that is getting sent by the Device Control section. Banks, essentially. This can be put to good use, but since the APC is sending itself some hard wired led on/off messages, the Track Selection buttons are probably not the best for mapping play/pause, etc.

But, if you have started up Live, gotten the red box, then quit Live, the APC is in a "dumb" mode where you can program the Track Selection buttons any way you like. This isn't really practical though. So I'd say stay clear of using those buttons for anything other than bank selection buttons (this can be great because you can set up the Device Control section to say control fx units 1 and 2 when you are on Track Select 1, and fx units 3 and 4 when you are on Track Select 2).

If you want to get around all this and just be able to do whatever you want with the APC, Bomes MT is a good option.

    Hey endy
Zac and bluenose have it dead on. I dont know as im not at home but i think the activator buttons will only act as a toggle. Bomes is awsome to control the apc but is a bit beyond me. I'll put my mapping up here so you can have a look and a mess about to get the hang of it. Another thing to note is are you running a mac or pc. I ask this because when it comes down to mapping the lights if ur running a mac your gonna have a easy time. Just use SEND MONITOR STATE IN and your done. Use this with a pc and get ready for the old snap crackle pop sounds lol. Hope you have fun with your apc and check over the forums for apc40, theres a few of us trying things out and i found a wealth of info.
