imo i would stay away from behringer unless you go with the ddm4000
A lot of people seem to be down on Behringer kit, especially in the PA and audio production worlds. One of my buddies sad to me "I won't let any of my analog signals go through a Behringer box". So, yes, they're a German owned Chinese company with a Euro-sounding name but when I started looking for details of why people hate them so much, there doesn't seem to be much actual evidence. As far as I can work out it's more to do with earlier business and design ethics than with their products (they've been sued several times for copying more expensive gear, down to exact dupes of the PCB).
Of course there are always stories of "my sister's friend's husband's box crapped out after only X weeks", but all of them seem to have happened years ago, to unknown people with early products and nobody can explain what the issue is or whether there's ever been a repeat of the same thing.
It seems to be all hype. If you're strapped for cash, Behringer looks to me like a good deal. Upgrade once you have the cash to something more performant or ethical.
Anyone got any more insights into why the Behringer hating?

DJ hate on behringer, just like they do on numark & gemini....The "PRICE" and if the price is low...it must be cheap dj gear!
I think it makes DJ feel superior b/c they spent $1500.00 on a Rane 57 or Pioneer DJM-800 or have a nice a shinny $3000 MBP. with 1200's Gold Edt & CDJ-2000's. Just cuz you dumped tons of cash on expensive gear...its not going to make you a better dj!
I own 4 15" powered Behringers, 2 19" Mixers, 1 Crossover/Limiter....and guess what? The gear works and sounds great, and gets the job done.
All djs have to start somewhere and if you only got 200.00 for a mixer and behringer will get the job done. Once you get better and get more gigs...you going to have more money and you will be able to upgrade!
We don't believe in the star system. We want the focus to be on the music. If we have to create an image, it must be an artificial image. That combination hides our physicality and also shows our view of the star system. It is not a compromise-daftpunk
Exactly! I own a set of Behringer 212XL speakers and a Xenyx 502 (Mini) Mixer. I've never had a problem with them - they work fine, sound good, and I didn't have to make a large investment for the functionality I needed.
If you are on a budget, you can't beat the value of Behringer products for the price you pay.

I used to work at Guitar Center, and out of the entire pro audio room including PA Speakers, processing, amps, DJ gear, lighting…all of it…we took back more Behringer DJ mixers than anything else.
Their tiny PA mixers are okay if you don't care about sound quality or just want a line-level volume control. Their stereo 1-U compressors are okay for live sound but not for production or mastering. That's about it.
The old DJX 4-channel DJ mixer is a POS, and I wouldn't expect these to be any different. They sound okay at first, though the phono preamps are noisy, but they break insanely quickly. Some people use them for a while, others don't have problems…most of the time, they just die.
I owned one of these ugly as hell boat anchors back in the day:
If I were to drop this thing out of a B-52 bomber, it would pickup enough velocity and have enough inertia to not only decimate a small town, but probably go through the earth and come out the other side.
It was heavy as shit, impossible to break, and ugly as hell. And it got the job done. It's like when your parents give you a car when you get your license, it's your first car - and it's a piece of shit because they assume you're gonna wreck it.
Also, crossfader curve control was located INSIDE that thing. Yeah you heard me, you had to OPEN the goddamn thing to adjust the crossfader.
At $140, this thing was a deal.
True story, BP Oil bought one to plug the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
