    Default Custom padKontrol software

So, as a computing student i need a project for this summer and i have a Korg padKontrol which i am only partially satisfied with.

I hope to be able to create a custom midi translator (similar to bomes) for the Korg padKontrol, pictured below.

The crazy thing about the padKontrol is that you can only midi map the two knobs at the top right, the pads and the x-y scratchpad. All of the other buttons, including the rotary encoder control the padKontrols menu system and behavior.

However, by sending obscure midi sysex messages you can set the controller to 'native' mode, which sends midi output from every control on the device. You can also send messages to turn the button LED's on/off and even write a message on the LED display.

The downside is that the communication is all done in the sysex format. While 'normal' MIDI follows global standards, the format of sysex messages is completely up to the manufacturer and varies from device to device.

I hope to create a bespoke piece of software specifically for the padKontrol that allows complete use of all controls. I also wish to implement usefull feedback from Traktor into the LED's. (Im thinking of having the buttons flash to the beat, that would be awesome )

This is going to be Mac only. Sorry windows users.

    If anyone has:

    • Experience programing with midi/Xcode/coremidi on a mac.
    • A padKontrol and a creative mind as to how to best map things.
    • Helpful suggestions or ideas.

I would love to hear back from you.

    Dups.

EDIT: Just found out about farmpad. How i did not bump into this during my research is beyond me. I might still have a shot at this just for fun.

Yea it seems like a Windows program is what people need.

It seems farmpad has already satisfied most mac users.

you could maybe make a GUI for farmpad, since its text based editing may put most people off..

A Windows farmpad would be excellent, however, the GUI for the mac version stands to be most excellent. Would a JAVA version be possible? Something like a multi-platformer like Rapid Evolution? It tends to get a little cumbersome and boring for people who do not 'think' the way most programmers think when using farmpad, so it is much easier for them to click a mouse rather than remember a specific syntax and writing that code into a text file for what they want to control.

Btw, something kind of along the lines of the padKONTROL Editor Librarian software that comes bundled with the padKONTROL hardware would probably be best for your farmpad gui for mac

Anybody on here ever attempt to swap out the smd led's on this badboy? I opened mine up, ordered the parts, desoldered one of the lights, and I actually got one of the pads to trigger with a blue led instead of red, but I did a shite soldering job and it stopped working. Also managed to mess up the entire bottom row of lights by continuing to try to get them to work. Two issues I ran into were, I think I bought too large size of the smd led's (had no idea what kind the padkontrol used so I just guessed by googling up smd led images and trying to measure) and also, if you head up the smd led's too much the little cheapo "pads" that are under each connection just come right off the board.

I would actually pay someone for this mod as aesthetics mean a lot to me and my studio, lol

Just wondering if anyone ever attempted this mod? I know it's purely cosmetic but you can't deny it would look damn good!

Any input would be helpful. Also let me know if I should have started a new thread as I am new to this forum

That's a pretty awesome link. I have a PadKontrol coming in the mail and I plan on using the midi-fighter tsi. I was rather bummed to find that the korg's lights can't be toggled on and off via midi command messages. Seems like this maybe be a viable work around.

I purchased the padKontrol with TP 2 years ago with the same ideas...very disappointed when I realised I couldn't map and utilise all of the controls or map lights etc...

It's taken a lot of searching to find this...i've explored all of the other options...Max patches...nativekontrol...Bomes Midi translation...each is a in their own right...but still not quite what i wanted.

This still has a few problems...it only looks for messages on one channel,,,and some buttons transmit on different ones..maybe the author could be persuaded to write some new code if there is enough nterest...
