Default Mapping "layers" in Traktor with LED feedback

    Hi everyone

I recently bought a Launchpad and I would like to use it in Traktor pro.
But when I was making a mapping for my launchpad I discovered traktor stops playing for an instant and deforms the sound when I use a “send monitor state”.
On the NI-forum, I discovered this problem is related to my computer. Conclusion: my laptop can’t seem to handle “send monitor states”.

I would like to make different layers in my mapping.
Example: Layer 1 contains the hotcue functions and has red LEDs. Layer 2 contains effects functions and has green LEDs. I can activate the second layer by pressing a modifier (I made some sort of “toggle” for the modifier). Then the functions change from hotcue to effects and the colours change from red to green.
And when I push the modifier again I get back into the hotcue layer (including the red LEDs).

So how can I make a mapping with this kind of layers without using a “send monitor state”?

The functions I mentioned above are just examples. I would just like to know how to make a “layer-mapping”.

I'm not sure that you can do this with using the "Send Monitor State", but i could be wrong. What i'm really wondering is, do you really need a second layer with the launchpad? I mean 72 buttons is a lot. I use mine for control over 4 decks and probably would get confused if i had a second layer. But at the same time i can see where this could open up a lot of possibilities. I'll mess around with this later today and see if i can come up with something.

It's more a PC issue. I have yet to see ANY windows machine handle sms commands for LED updates via midi w/o pops and crackles. It'll be interesting to see how NI's upcoming controller handles this well-known and heretofore unaddressed issue.
An alternative for sms is to use modifiers BUT after about 4-6 LEDs per modifier you start to get the same audio distortion, as well as quickly run out of modifiers. I am not optimistic about this issue getting resolved.

    You could go Mac though...

    Thank you for responding

@space monkey: going Mac is a solution but a very expensive one. I'm just a college student. That's the reason why I was searching for an alternative solution.
There are windows machines who can handle sms without crackles but they are very rare indeed.

@st8updrew: I know, I know! 72 buttons should be able to satisfy a buttonfreak like me But I'm always searching for these little extras that make it even more fun! I've already made a mapping to control 4 decks in Traktor and it's working all fine. I was just trying to make the Launchpad my personal holy grail
Maybe you can send me your mapping and I send you mine. I'm always happy to get new insights in the art of mapping

Actually i'm using a slightly modified version of the mapping from this post...
    http://www.djtechtools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9527
I added some basic effects to the buttons on the left.
Using that with my nanokontrol and an audio 2, i think its the perfect ultra portable 4 deck setup.

link the leds with the mod condition, so when mod = 0 it turns them red, and 1 is green? by this i mean, set outputs for the mod on every related button. be alot of duplicate and drop down menu business but it should work.

I know what you mean. I have already tried linking the leds with the mod condition.
When I activated the modifier (mod=1) the leds turned green but when deactivated the modifier (mod=0) the leds didn't turn red again.

    how did you map them?

I made a small example mapping of what I think you meant.

er, that doesn't really show me much.

what options did you select, i.e control range, blend/invert, etc?
