I'm working on reverse engineering it. What a genius. I'm wondering if it's possible to do it solely in traktor or if he did some firmware magic on the actual device itself.

You'll need a firmware update that turns the analog inputs to smart knobs with two opposing CCs and a NoteOn/NoteOff at each end.

Sure, you can do it without DJTT gear, it's just there's not many MIDI controllers out there that can do "smart knob" tricks. The best way to fake it is to add the additional messages to a "dumb" CC using a tool like Bome's MIDI Translator - it'll read the CC and add in the extra messages.

We're been moving into new territory recently, moving the mapping into the device while keeping the device open to anyone who wants to change things. Not many companies do that.

It's exciting stuff, I love seeing what the DJTT team comes up with. My goal is to, at some point in the future, build my own controller from scratch. It'd be tough though.

Anyone know a good source for the faders/pots in the UK? My Midifighter is housed in a wooden box with enough room to mod it so i'm gonna take the plunge. No electronics experience of note other than soldering arcades to my VCI so it will be interesting.

yeah, i haven't tried this yet, but i've been working with novation automap, and i know that you can assign one control to hit as many cc as you want with it, you can invert midi from the hardware or in some cases with software (easy in traktor), i don't know about the note on/off at the end of the fader, i guess that would be an additional cc per end for a total of four cc on one fader, and then you'd have to assign it as a button or maybe adjust the scale of that cc to 0 to 1, not sure, haven't tried, but i would recommend testing out novation automap before dropping huge cash on custom hardware...

    good luck with whatever though...

oh yeah, and be warned, midi-wizardry isn't exactly conducive to social interchange, your gf/bf may dump you out of disgust at your nerdiness...

hahah mine's actually happy about my nerdiness, it keeps me at home fiddling knobs and buttons rather than out in the streets, strip clubs, and bowling alleys :-O
